Oops. I made a huge mistake.
 

I cannot believe the stupid mistake I made the other day. I had all of the blocks made for a new quilt. I sashed the sides of ea. one to create rows. Then I put the horizontal sashings on then the first border. Yikes, then I realized I forgot to put the center sashing in. Oh my gosh, Now I have to take the center seam out & cut the borders to fix it all. At first I was going to just leave it like it is but my conscience won't let me so that's how I'm going to spend this rare, rainy day in Ariz. I hate to waste the border fabric but I guess I'll have to take the border off & cut new pcs. to avoid piecing new borders. What a dummy. What a waste of time.

It happens to all of us, don't feel bad.

Well look on the bright side, you only had the first border on when you realized your ooops. I've done a bunch of stupid mistakes and I'm like you, no one would notice or they would think it's supposed to be like that. We know it's not right and it will bug us forever if we don't fix it. There have been days where I used my seam ripper more than my sewing machine. Enjoy the rain and enjoy your sewing day. Maybe treat yourself to something good to snack on or drink.

You are not alone, we all make mistakes at one time or another. I am very bad about rushing when I get about half way through with a quilt and I start making mistakes if I don't slow down. I bet your quilt will be beautiful when finished.

At least it is raining, what a better day to reconstruct. Hope you can laugh about it someday.

Just when I think I have made every mistake possible. I either find a new one or I start repeating the old try and trued ones.

Time for a good movie, aka sit and take out. Please post a picture when it is all done.

Oh, well. You could cut the now-too-short border in half and add an accent block to the center to extend it's length.

I just had to take out a strip between my French Braid quilt because I cut the strip 2 1/2 inches too long!!!! It was so ripply and I didn't notice until I took to the LA person. It was finished so I had all my borders on also! I knew I would never be happy with it that way so came home, took out all 4 seams, re-measured and cut to CORRECT length and sewed it back into place. It is flat now, thank goodness!!!! You aren't alone in making errors!!!!!!

It's not a mistake- it's a design opportunity! And you are not alone. I bought enough fabric to back a baby quilt. I didn't want to make a creative back with pieces from the front, i just wanted to seam it and be done. I bought 2 lengths. In my haste or absentmindedness, i cut it too short! So I had to make a creative back with pieces from the front. But guess what? I had enough of that backing to make another creative back for another baby quilt. Sometimes it turns out even better. It's OK...we have all been there and sympathize! My latest oops was when I was sewing sashing strips to the sides of my blocks before assembling. Got each one done and then realized I shouldn't have put them on BOTH sides of the blocks. Yikes!

You have my sympathy. Hope the fix goes quickly.

Yup, just like everyone else - just when I think I've made every mistake there is, up pops another one!! Grrrr.

At least it wasn't quilted!

I have been there and think about leaving the mistake and wake up the next day and cannot leave it so then I have to take it all apart. Wasted time I know what you mean. Sorry for you!!!!

Grammysharon, I did just what you did but I walked away from it til the next morn. when I was in a better mood. I just removed the 2 borders, put a sashing in, then cut new borders.
I've made mistakes in the past but usually spot them sooner than this one.
I told a fellow quilting friend what I did to fix it & she just laughed & laughed at me. She said "I knew you would. You're such a true quilter that you couldn't have left it the way it was". She was so right. I was tempted to leave it the way it was but I would have stewed & stewed about it then never would have cared for that quilt.

Been there, done that, more times than I would like to admit sometimes. I'd say a rainy day is a good day to put on a movie and unsew away.

i have used many nights sitting and watching T V while taking seams out of a quilt because my mind was not in the right place at the right time !! i think of it as a learning lesson!
