Opinions on the Dear Jane Software?

EQ is running a sale on the software today (not that it's much of a sale, once you add the shipping it's almost full price anyway... but, I digress). :) A Dear Jane quilt is definitely on my bucket list and I'm trying to decide whether to go for it or not.

You should also check the price at Quilt-in-a-day. YOu have to put it in your cart to see the price, but it usually is the least expensive option.

Are you thinking about using EQ7 for the Dear Jane patterns?

Actually, I don't have EQ7. The Dear Jane software is stand-alone; apparently you don't need EQ to use it. At least, that's what the description says.

If you have a Mac - be sure it is compatible.

I have it and am a little disappointed. I was hoping it would walk me through how to do it help it not seem so overwhelming.

I had bought the book before the CD.

To me it is time consuming to learn and get it going.
I then told myself I would work with it 30 minutes a day, that did not last very well.

The book only has line drawings of the indivifual blocks - more or less like Jane's blocks. No how-to for assembling them. The individual block photos are quite mall - so hard to see the details.

Jane probably did not have directions, either.

I used this program for all the blocks, tris and corners. ...it allows you to use temples, paper piece or rotary cut most of them. Also gives you outlines for the appliqué ones. It was worth every penny I spend on it. :)

here is a link to a very helpful blog http://thatquilt.blogspot.com/
you could use this in conjunction with the book or the software... i found it invaluable when doing my DJ

GEMRM 02-12-2015 04:01 PM

I didn't find it particularly helpful. I am working on my own DJ now, slowly though!
