Pinwheels on all sides then narrow borders of both the gold and purple. Any LSU baby would love it!

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 08-22-2011 04:05 AM

I like the pinwheels around all 4 sides and then just repeat your gold and blue borders.

psquared52 08-22-2011 04:18 AM

Really cute quilt! I do agree that the pinwheels somewhat overwhelm the center. How about adding a wide floral border around the edges and then use the pinwheels on the backing. I love a backing that includes pieced blocks.

ronnie17 08-22-2011 04:25 AM

Pinwheels on one side is a great idea... a little diffferent which makes the beautiful center motif even more striking. I would go with a "solid" border on the right and around the pinwheels and them maybe half log cabins all around and then bind. Beautiful work

mimistutz 08-22-2011 04:26 AM

If all four side look too busy to you, I think I would leave just the top and bottom pinwheels and bind it in the yellow/gold.

lenette 08-22-2011 04:35 AM

This is adorable! When I saw the first picture, I thought you could put alternating vertical stripes on the sides, but when I saw the pic with the pinwheels on the side, I loved it.

I think you need to not worry about making it rectangular. She will love it!

Debd 08-22-2011 04:36 AM

Maybe try every other block as a pinwheel, making sure the pinwheels are in the corner? The alternating blocks could be a simple pattern of the two colors, or even a "framed" embroidery piece with paw prints or other appropriate motifs.

wishfulthinking 08-22-2011 04:47 AM

I say go with it with the pinwheels on all sides. It looks great!

eimay 08-22-2011 04:48 AM

I like it with the pinwheels on 3 sides. Perhaps down the last side (right), put a solid strip with Tigers (word) appliqued on the strip. Finish it off with a narrow border and binding.

SUZAG 08-22-2011 04:50 AM

I think you have just been looking at it too long...it is very cute! Go with your first instincts, I don't think it looks too busy. If you are still worried about it put a solid strip between the center and the pinwheels.

canuckninepatch 08-22-2011 05:04 AM

I prefer the balance of having the pinwheels on all 4 sides - I think it looks great!!! C9P

Homespun 08-22-2011 05:05 AM

Cute--hope you have found the answer you needed.

jad1044 08-22-2011 05:07 AM

You could go with a border around the pinwheels on top and bottom and sides, then add 4 cornerstone pinwheels - something different.

glorcour 08-22-2011 05:13 AM

I like the pinwheels all around.

I like it best with the pinwheels going down the side but I gotta say, I really like the way it looks with just the 3 sides done!

I agree! The off-center look is adorable! I'd add a thin border of purple (say 1" or 1 1/2") all around and bind it with black. I LOVE it!

Totally agree.

BuzzinBumble 08-22-2011 05:40 AM

Your Quilt is so great and so fitting for its recipient. I love all of it, but especially the little tiger in the carriage. Sure would like to know how you did that! I can't offer wise and experienced advice, but would like to say: Please Show it to us when you do get it finished!

Eliebelle 08-22-2011 05:43 AM

The quilt is for a baby - right? They LOVE busy and I don't think this one is "too busy" by any means! It is so CUTE!!!

Steady Stiching 08-22-2011 05:43 AM

I vote yes for pinwheels all around....lovely quilt!

marmalade 08-22-2011 05:49 AM

I vote going down the left side!

To balance - on the right side - I would use the colours of the pinwheel in long strips, in graduating widths, for a finished look.

cheri62 08-22-2011 05:52 AM

I think pin wheels on sides and top and bottom, very cute quilt.

Gerbie 08-22-2011 06:04 AM

I too think that alternating the pinwheel blocks, along the side , top and bottom with plain blocks would take away from some of the busy look, maybe smaller pinwheels. You might also lay a strip of gold fab. in a thin border between the main part of the quilt and the pinwheels to see what that does. That is going to be just precious!!. I think that it would really add to the quilt if you used all white or alternated between white and the purple (if I remember by LSU colors) pararie points around the edges. I used the 3D pinwheels on a wall hanging and added the pararie points, I really liked the effect. You can always just pin some to see what it is going to look like. Check in pictures under my name for some finished work and some work in progress, there is a pic. of the wall hanging

Homemother 08-22-2011 06:11 AM

I like the pinwheels all around! So cute!!! She'll love it.

Just-Lee 08-22-2011 06:14 AM

I love the pinwheels, but I see what Dee is saying about size. I wouldn't want to back up either, so what about making the center panel bigger to even things out?? If not, what about adding some sort of border, between the panel border and pinwheels, to make the panel look bigger? Perhaps a black and white stripe border...or something else that may look as it is part of the panel? I am not a seasoned quilter, or remotely close, just trying to give perspective from a clueless person seeing a quilt for the first time :)

SandraD 08-22-2011 06:23 AM

So cute! I like them all the way around.

lillybeck 08-22-2011 06:24 AM

Business for a baby is great. It stimulates them.

darlings7 08-22-2011 06:27 AM

I would add another pinwheel strip to the right side and then add either a single border of one of your colors or a double border. I think the size and color of your pinwheels are really pretty and wouldn't change that. But balance it with another row of pinwheels on the right side.

What a great gift! :-)

Aquarius 08-22-2011 06:32 AM

I think it looks nice with the pinwheels. Balances it out and makes the center panel stand out.

Pieceful Quilter 08-22-2011 06:33 AM

I like all the pinwheels. Most likely a baby will love to look at them too. The center is simply adorable!!!

CindyLou 08-22-2011 06:41 AM

I think I would repeat the borders all the way around until you reach the desired size. Looks great though.

Havplenty 08-22-2011 06:50 AM

i think dee hit it on the head, the scale of the pinwheels are possibly a bit too large for the panel. you may want to consider enlarging the panel by adding additional borders. my eye is drawn to the pinwheels first and then travels to the panel.

your quilt and color scheme is beautiful and will be treasured by the family that receives it. keep up your good work.

marylynspr 08-22-2011 07:00 AM

Love the way it looks with pinwheels just on the top and bottom---makes the buggy look like it's moving! A plain border down the sides would be terrific and you could use the extra pinwheels on the back perhaps. Nice job and very cute.

Sandyb 08-22-2011 07:11 AM

That is too too cute. I think the pinwheels all around really set it off and to me wouldn't really need any thing else.

EagarBeez 08-22-2011 07:14 AM

I like the pinwheels up and down the top and sides, or if you use the pinwheels on top and bottom with a solid strip down both sides. It's a really cute baby quilt which I am sure it's going to be loved a lot. Really nice job

catmcclure 08-22-2011 08:36 AM

Make new pinwheel blocks that are 1/2 the size you already have - could cut down the pinwheels you've done so far. Then put two rows of 1/2 size pinwheels down each side. Would keep the rectangular shape.

I agree

Ellen 1 08-22-2011 08:45 AM

I like the pinwheels on all 4 sides. More eye pleasing than just having them on the top and bottom. Ellen

bebe 08-22-2011 09:11 AM

love your center design
good work
I think u have 2 many pinwheels
I would put a solid block or 9patch maybe

crazyrvquilter 08-22-2011 09:13 AM

Being an LSU fan I really love it! I wonder how it would look with pinwheels going around one upper corner and one opposite lower corner with either solid or stripe border to finish off the sides. Geaux Tigers!
