I agree, diagonally striped binding is so pretty on scallop edges.

If you make you border stripe narrow and then use the same stripe on your binding I think it will be pretty.

I love a bias stripe binding, too. But, sorry Lynnie, I'm just not picturing a striped border and then the binding. You have a good eye though, so it might be just what you want. :)

If the candy stripe is between the 2 solids I do not think it would be overkill. Using the stripe also for binding would balance the borders. I often like to repeat a fabric from a quilt in the border. Helps to unify.

Love the stripes. Especially against the black.

Lynnie, from comments and suggestions you have made to others, you have great instincts. Follow your heart and use your candy stripe border in the middle.

I am trying to visualise. I would position the fabrics side by side then stand back a few feet to judge the overall effect. Having said that, I really love a candy-stripped binding. You are very creative and talented; whatever you choose will be nice. Peckish, I think your quilt is beautiful.

A fabric on a clearance rack caught my eye. When I pulled it out - it was incredibly awful (black with stained glass sideways cross-like things). But, when I looked at it in the 1" strip of the bolt, it hit me that it would look fantastic as a binding. This has led me to look at fabrics a bit different. I will hold the bolt sidewards next to a solid and get a great idea for the binding. Very often a wild bold print will look perfect in a very small dose as a binding. And, you can often find these wild, crazy, oddball cottons on clearance tables!

I totally agree! I was on a quilt retreat with friends, and we were shop-hopping at lunch. One of my friends found that striped fabric (picture posted upthread) and INSISTED that I buy it for the binding for that quilt, which at the time was nothing but unassembled blocks. I was very doubtful; I thought the colors were off and it would clash terribly. But I bought it anyway because she was so insistent. I figured I could use it at some point down the road. But once the quilt was complete and I auditioned that fabric, I realized what a genius she was, because it was PERFECT. :D

I agree w/ others - I can't visualize a striped, scalloped BORDER w/out pictures. Everyone can visualize using striped fabric as the binding.
