So here is the pcs of my son's quilt for his graduation. I need all of your wonderful people to think with me what is the best scenario for a border. Just plain green and black or braid (will that be too much?). There was too much green for my eyes to work with and i can't wait to be over with this but my dear son loves these colors :) and i want it to be perfect and i don't care if it is gonna take me long time to finish.
Thank you all for your usual help and support.

Plain green and black, I think. Interesting that your eyes have trouble with all that green: I get that effect with reds. Sometimes I've been embroidering with red thread (by hand) and the thread seemed to shimmer.

Stunning top!

Thank you. When you say plain black and green what do you suggest?

Maybe a narrow green border followed by a wider black?

JenBlossom 03-09-2011 01:52 PM

I would say a thin border in either green/black and a wider border in whichover of those you don't use for the thin border (personally I'd do thin black border, wider green border, and black binding). But I'm still a beginner, but there's my 2 cents for what they're worth :)

The quilt looks great!

I think a small black inner border - then a wider white border and bind in green. Great looking quilt, good job.

I see it the other way around. Narrow dark (it reads blue on my screen) and a wider green.

I just do a nice good sized black border to pop everything.

If your son really likes the green, then I would sew a narrow black around it and then the larger green with the green also being the binding.

I love the color green, but, I am seeing too much green as it is so bright. I would use a narrow black border.

I have been quilting for years, but this too, would be my suggestion. The black narrow border gives the eye a rest. Be sure to post pics when done. I love it so far! :)

Beautiful! I would add a black border and trim it in either solid green or a stripe if you could match the color.

that is what I would do too

Thank you all for your generous opinions. I am now just waiting for my son to come back from college so i would ask his opinion also and decide.

Oh and just to give everybody an idea, even though my son knows about the quilt and he chose the fabric, but he doesn't know that i am getting the quilt signed by all his friends and i am thinking about the middle white piece to put his graduation pic with a massage underneath it if i learn how to use my embroidery machine

Will update everybody

I think Blk. To set it off.
8-)

I love how its coming out!

jemma 03-09-2011 06:30 PM

a black border next would join to the outer triangles -- i think would look good --enough green-- black binding too

julie777 03-09-2011 06:37 PM

i would alternate green and black

I agree with the thin black followed by wider green.

DITTO. A small inner black border would frame it, the white wider border would make it pop and binding in green would finish it off. Beautiful quilt, can hardly wait to see it finished.

Charming 03-10-2011 06:49 AM

You people are just wonderful. Thank you all. I asked my son last night and he said whatever you want to put there is too much white in it :) funny

lisalovesquilting 03-10-2011 06:57 AM

Your quilt is gorgeous! Someone may have already suggested this, but how about a thin black and then a wider green.

carolaug 03-10-2011 02:30 PM

A black border would look great!

whinnytoo 03-10-2011 02:40 PM

I agree,,,,,,, narrow border of one color, wider of the other...... your quilt is gorgeous!
