Opportunity to buy another quilter's stash

I met a lovely lady through our local online classifieds. She has had to give up quilting due to failing eyesight. I bought a box of books from her for $30.00 a few weeks ago.

She told me she would give me first dibs on her stash once she got it sorted. Well today I got an email from her saying come over this weekend.

I have no idea of her taste in fabric, so it should be interesting.

She said she has tools too.

I will take a look at the budget and go with cash in hand.

I will report back on Sunday.

Wow, hope she has fabrics you really like. Good luck

Hope she has stuff you can use, then it's a great find!!!

Oh, how wonderful! I've had the opportunity to do this a couple of times and I've yet to be disappointed! Good luck, and congrats on the find!

Sad, she no longer can sew, but great that you may be gaining her stash. Let us know.

Enjoy shopping! This will likely be a win/win situation.

HillCountryGal 11-29-2012 05:07 AM

Yea for you...
Bet she will be glad to know her quilting stuff is going to someone that appreciates it!

I absolutely agree with HillCountryGal, she will be pleased to know that her stash will have a good home. Looking forward to hearing about your experience.

I hope you get a haul of good fabric! Post some pictures here if you do so we can all drool over it.:D

No matter how much you dislike the fabric, I still would get it if it's a good deal. How many times have we thought that piece of ugly fabric will not fit in anywhere, until it was mixed up with others, just to reveal it's true beauty.

Imagine how many wonderful quilts you can make to donate to charity. Some of the colors or patterns, that you may or may not like, will be greatly appreciate it by others who are really cold.

Great opportunity. A lady gave out guild her stash and we each took some. It was FANTASTIC

So sorry that she won't be able to quilt anymore. Can't wait to see what you come home with. I'm sure she is happy to see her stash go to someone who will use it. I gave away several bags of fabric when I cleaned my sewing room a few years ago, and several ladies were very happy to get the fabric. Some of the fabric was the "what was I thinking" variety, but they were happy to get it. Most were new quilters, so didn't have much fabric yet.

My moto is - there is no such thing as ugly fabric, as long as you cut is in small pieces.

Amen! I've been given some ugly fabrics, but if its cotton or cotton poly, i take it...you never know what will come out of it. Go for it!

normasews 11-29-2012 11:49 AM

Good luck. Hope you find lots of great stuff.

hperttula123 11-29-2012 01:02 PM

I can't wait to find out how it goes. Good luck!!!

I bought a friends stash and have not been sorry. What I couldn't use I sold on this board. I figured I paid about 50 cents /yd. it also gave me the opportunity to use fabric I wouldn't normally buy.

This same opportunity has come my way a few times in the past and I've never been disappointed. I'm so excited for you and can't wait to see what you come home with - post photos!!

Many years ago a very nice lady sold me all of her quilting stuff dirt cheap. She had cancer and wasn't going to survive. She showed me a very beautiful piece of fabric and said that it was her favorite and she hoped that I could find a good use for it. Well, I did, I made her a quilt with it. She was thrilled and I felt better about taking all of the stuff she had been collecting for years. Made us both feel good. I can't imagine having to part with my sewing stuff, would be like giving away an old friend and theropist. I think I will make my kids have to deal with that when I cross over. Hugs.

It is sad to hear that the lady has to give up her sewing. I have bought and "been given" fabric that I would not have paid full price for as it was not my favorite-aka ugly. But I cut some up and was amazed that the ugliness went away when cut smaller. Recently went through my "been given" fabric and boxed up quite a bit for a woman who coordinates annual charity quilts to various places. They take 4 weeks every year to make these quilts, all tied, as a way to honor a grandchild's memory- he was just two when they lost him.

How wonderful for you and an opportuity for your friend who can't sew anymore. I'm sure it will be a load off her mind as well as expanding your resources. I hope you enjoy your shopping spree!!

MarieM 11-30-2012 06:31 AM

I'll be interested to see what you come home with. Should be fun and a win/win for both of you.

Oh man the poor women. Guys can you imagine having to sell your stash?? I guess we may find ourselves in her shoes one day. Well now that I got that out of my system...hope you are successful.

GrannieAnnie 11-30-2012 11:36 AM

Hope she has good prices on things you can use.

On our craigslist, a woman has been offering fabric for several months. A total of 7 yards of several different pieces for $20. I've been tempted to tell her to reduce the price to $5 and she may get some takers.

KyKaren1949 11-30-2012 01:53 PM

Lucky YOU!!! Can't wait to hear what you find.

cindygale 11-30-2012 10:12 PM

Have a wonderful time. your friend will be so glad to have a fellow quilter get her stash.

craftymatt2 12-01-2012 08:38 AM
