Optical illusion quilt

Do any of you know where I can get a pattern for an optical illusion quilt. The one I liked was called log cabin in a lens, but the directions were written in Russian. I figure the quilt will be tedious enough without a language barrier.

This is the templates for the blocks. Very very complicated.

I've been wanting to try this one by Jinny Beyer: http://www.jinnybeyer.com/quilting-w...7CD2806E61F4E8

Makes me dizzy!

Have you tried translating the russion website? Many blogs have translation available or you can cut and paste the directions into a free translation program like Babblefish. I'm not sure I would attempt that one.

i love this one.... can't believe the pattern is free!

cjsews 01-29-2014 01:55 PM

It looks like a paper pieced pattern. The pieces are numbered and looks like one is done in reverse. Then match them up to the number grid. Good luck with this one. We would love to see pics when done.

carolstickelmaier 01-29-2014 02:37 PM

Oh I really really like this one. If you do it please post pic.

Do you know someone from Russia who could translate it for you? I just wondered because we have several adults in my local area who are Russian and are able to make make visits back home every so often.

Misty's Mom 01-29-2014 05:57 PM

I know no one from Russia. Please is there anyone on this board from Russia that could translate ?

Ladibug 01-29-2014 11:21 PM

I tried a translation site (I think) and I couldn't get it to work. So I googled it and I came up with this: The Quilt Show-WebTV for Quilters and Worldwide Quilt Community. They have a forum and someone had a similar problem that was about a knitting pattern in Russian. I have seen the names Alex Anderson Ricky Tims talked about in here so I thought maybe someone in here might just be a member of the site (since it is a quilting site and forum too) and could ask if anyone on there could help translate it. I hope I am making sense. The link is below. Hope you all will share the results if it gets translated.

If you've made a log cabin quilt, and if you've ever done paper-piecing, I don't think a translation is necessary. The pattern itself is pretty simple, despite looking so complicated.

MacThayer 01-30-2014 12:06 AM

Here's a good Russian to English translation site: http://imtranslator.net/translation/...h/translation/

I use IMTranslator to talk to my friends in the Czech Republic, and it works well because it not only translates, but it gives you a back translation. Try it!

Edie 01-30-2014 03:56 AM

How about Floating Stars. I have made it several times and love it. The pattern is in Quilter's Cache under a 12" block. I don't think you need a translation for it either.

Yes please do post a picture of your finished quilt ...

cpfrog 01-30-2014 06:45 AM

WOW! that pattern is quite psychedelic!!!!!!!! Try Google Translations... http://translate.google.com/ ...it may help, at least a little.
Good luck!

Wow - I think I would be crazy by the time I DIDN'T finish!

maxnme01 01-30-2014 03:55 PM

You can translate foreign languages by going to www.translate.google.com OR www.translate.com
Just copy and past the words into the box and it will translate it for you. Just pick what language you want it in.

What about this one. Not quite finished yet. It is an Erin Underwood pattern. Just be sure you have really accurate 1/4" seam allowances.

jewellene 01-30-2014 04:55 PM

Some of your kaleidoscope patterns have an illusion appearance.

maviskw 01-30-2014 07:55 PM

Would Hollow Cubes qualify? Google Hollow Cubes Quilts and see what you find.

woody 01-31-2014 02:41 AM

I have made 2 quilts using the quilts of illusion techniques by Karen Combs http://www.karencombs.com/patterns.htm which I love, as well as hollow cubes in the One Block Wonders Encore book http://www.amazon.com/One-Block-Wond.../dp/1571204644

Sandygirl 01-31-2014 03:58 AM

Karen Combs. Her patterns are great! I saw her in Paducah. Beautiful quilts! She has a website.

Just thought of another one. It looks like hidden wells, but each block looks like it is added in a layer on top of the one underneath. The blocks are made in squares, kind of like a log cabin square.

I went to Quilter's Cache and could not find 'Floating Stars'.

That's because it's not on QC. You can find the pattern here: http://quilting.about.com/od/blockof...ng_stars_5.htm

The picture of the finished quilt is on page 5. Scroll down to click back to page 1 for instructions.
