Which order to sew stacked cubes
I am making 3 rows of stacked cubes. 3 on the bottom, 2 in the middle and 1 on top. I have all my cubes made and now I need to sew them together. There will not be any space between the cubes. Do I sew the rows first and then sew them together? Do I sew them together going up first in sort of a diagonal line? I saw this as a free pattern somewhere but can't find it anywhere now that I'm trying to use it:( So I'm sort of winging it, which means I'm taking out a lot of stitches.
Thanks for your help! Amy |
I assume this is using 60 degree triangles? If so, you don't sew the whole cube together at once. You sew a whole line of triangles, then the next line, then sew those two lines together. That way you don't wind up having to sew set-in seams.

Yes, unfortunately you have to sew half the block and then rows if you want to avoid Y seams. If they are already together you will need to sew up to the 1/4 seam allowance, stop and pivot to sew the next seam.

I knew I should've asked you before I started on this but NO I had to try to be Miss Independent and do it myself. OK, I won't do anything ever again without asking first:) Unfortunately, I do tend to learn the hard way!!

If they are half hexagons then row first. I know these are triangles but same idea.
