Organ or Schmetz needles for a Janome 6600P???
 

Looking for advice on which needle to use on my Janome 6600P. I know that I can buy "Janome" needles, but they are so expensive. I have seen both Organ brand & Schmetz brand recommended to use. So which one do you prefer or should I buy Janome only needles. :p Thanks everybody.

I've never bought Janome needles. I use Schmetz or Superior on my Janome 6600.

I use both Organ & Schmetz on mine, zero problems. :) I've even used some "mystery" needles that I think probably came with my 90's Kenmore machine and didn't have any trouble at all. I don't think this machine is picky when it comes to needles. I didn't know there were Janome brand needles!

I DO use Janome brand bobbins, though, it does seem to be picky about that.

I'm sure that the Janome needles are good needles, but they are probably more expensive. I use Schmetz sharps with my Bernina 440 QE. Bernina dealers tell Bernina owners the same thing about Bernina needles, but the only time I've ever used Bernina needles was when I broke a needle during a class and didn't have any spares.

I've found that both Organ and Schmetz work well in my 6600 as well as my other Janomes. Each machine has its own temperment, so it's best to give each a try. I think more important is the type and size of needle and what you are using it for.

I've used the Schmetz ones without any trouble.

I have a Janome 8200 and use Organ needles all the time. They work great and are much less expensive than Schmetz.

I use Schmetz all the time in my Bernina, it seems that I heard somewhere that Organ needles are best used when you are only straight stitching, embroidering, FMQ. Something about them not being good to use with decorative stitches.

....Ditto.... I use the Superior Titanium needles mostly, they are great and last a lot longer than regular needles.

I always use Organ needles in my 6600.I used any thread too....it's a great machine.

I use organ needles for everything. sewing, quilting & embroidering, even the titanium & really like them. Also in Janome machine we have on quilting frame.

When I bought a new car the dealer told me to use only Shell gas. Do u think I believed him and did it. ....lol. If you believe that I wonder about you. Now think of it this way. What needles were used in Janome machines before they started branding their own. There is a reason some needles are called Universal. I have to chuckle about some stuff we quilters are told we have to use or do. Guess I should start using only Correlle in my microwave. Makes me wonder if they designed the machine to fit the needle or needle to fit the machine. If we put a Janome, a Bernina, a Schmitz needle side by side under a microscope they would probably look the same.

Schmetz on my Janome. Schmetz Topstitch needles for free motion quilting. I did try the Janome Topstitch, but the eye is much smaller than the Schmetz ones - using the latter makes a big difference.

Most brands of needles will stitch well enough in most machines. However, my personal assessment of whether or not a needle "works" in my machine is based on whether or not the needle will work the the built-in needle threader. if the needle's eye and the little wire thingy on the threader don't line up, the threader can't pull the thread thru the eye.

my Janome 6600P worked very well with both Schmetz and Organ brand needles.
(i read somewhere that Janome brand needles are actually manufactured by the Organ folks.)

i can also use either brand in my Janome MC11000.

Oddly, though, I found that only Organ/Janome needles work with the needle threader in my Janome MC8900. I also found that I get better results with the Organ/Janome needles when i'm stippling. The thread kept breaking until i switched to Organ needles.

Good thing that Organ brand is usually less expensive than Schmetz. LOL

I read on the janome forum that organ makes janome needles :)

I ordered some sewing machine needles from Av*****h Su*****s from EBAY. They called and said they didn't have the size I ordered. Would I want some size 16s? It was a good price so I said yes. One needle shaft was deformed and would not go in the machine. I tried several different machines. Some of the needles shred the thread, some skip stitches and some broke thread. I can't return the needles because they only had a 5 or 10 day return policy. Beware of cheap needles - they may have bad quality control.

A great place to buy reasonably priced needles is discountembroiderysupply.com. They have a great selection. Both Organ and Schmetz needles are fine to use in a Janome.

I think using the correct size and type is more important than the brand name. I've used Janome, Organ, Schmetz, Universal and Superior needles in my Janome 6600 as well as my other three Janome machines.

I love my 6600 and use Superior or Schmetz. Never have a problem with either one

I have a Janome 6600, a Brother 1500 and a Featherweight.....use Superior topstitch titanium in all three with no problem. Have also used the Schmetz in all with no problem.....My Janome came with some Organ replacement needles, but I haven't even used them.....

I buy Schmetz whenever Joann has the half price notions wall. It's a great time to stock up.

Both brands are great.

Although it's been a few years now when I purchased my Janome 4000, but my dealer recommended and only stocked Schmetz brand sewing needles. I do tend to wait until JoAnn's has a 50% off sale on their notions, which includes sewing machine needles, which makes them more reasonable.

I've only used Schmetz so far but I want to try some kind of titanium needles sometime. I also heard that Janome needles are made by Organ.

I use organ for all sewing and schmetz gold for embroidery on my Janome 9700. Never had any problems...

I use both organ and schmetz on my Janome 6600. They both work fine, just make sure your bobbin case is always clean.

Superior Titanium Topstitch needles are what I use mostly, although I've used about everything. My Janome doesn't seem to be fussy about needles, the way it is with bobbins. I use Superior Threads as well, and through experience I believe they give off the least amount of lint.

Organ are good needles.

PatriceJ, I was thinking the same thing. I have used Schmetz for a while, but with my 8200 the needle threader doesn't seem to work so I now use Organ. The threader almost always works on the first try. Luckily my Janome dealer always has a good deal on them.

On my If I couldn't get the needle threader to work I would be lost. My eyes just aren't that good anymore. :D

I've enjoyed this topic. I am one that would still be looking for a Shell station! New to my Janome and am soon needing to purchase needles.

I tried the Schmetz and had a devil of a time threading them (my 35 year old Kenmore's only needle threader is me); tried the Organ needles and have no problem with them, so bought a bunch very reasonably on eBay.

I wonder if Jo-Ann's carrys the Organ, I don't think I have ever seen any there nor in my LQS, although I'm not positive about the latter. I'll have to check them out.

I don't think Shell gas ethanol in it, at least it didn't use to. Ethanol will ruin your car engine over time. Only one station in my town has no ethanol gas. The salesman should have told you why so you would know about different types of gas. Check engine light coming on (no specific mech. reason why) is the first sign.

I bought some organ needles from discount embroidery.

I use Schmetz all the time in my 6600 and have not had any issues.
