Our latest quilt group challenge ---
------ Is to make a quilt in any size and the title is " A Song Title "
Has anybody ever made a quilt which interprets a song title ? I would love for some inspiration please ? |
I did one I called "the wall" ( Pink Floyd), can't find the pic. Looked like a brick wall in the dark, fabric had a "texture" sort of like stone. I even added some vines climbing up it.
|
Summertime and the living is easy. all summery colors.
Red Red Robin come hopping hopping a long. Do you have bird fabric, frog fabric? Food prints Hungry by Paul Revere and the Raiders I think the key is keeping theme and colors to what YOU like If an idea is too good not to try, but not your taste make a dolly quilt :) We Are The Champions. This would be a good time to be creative with stash, too easy to buy team logos now. any song of a patriotic song? Tie a yellow ribbon, When johnny comes marching home, I think that is from our Civil War.. Pick the song that sings England, and do a War of the Roses? Most of us have too much florals ? |
I'm thinking in colors right now...
Yellow Submarine White Christmas Blue Suede Shoes |
This was a challenge a few years back. Maybe Google quilts made from song titles and see what comes up.
|
our guild did this last year--I did one of Bob Segar's "Against the Wind"--with my daughter on her horse and running into the wind. can't get the pic to upload.
One of the coolest collections was a Beatles songbook--especially "She came in through the bathroom window"! |
Here are a couple of previous threads on this:

Okay, Don't laugh but, how about Old MacDonald?
|
Some ideas to help you get your creative juices flowing ....
If you would like to be patriotic ♪♫God Save the Queen♫♪ ... lots of range there for a royalty theme ♪♫Rule Britannia♫♪ ... could be interesting. Maybe a storm a sea background and a ship on top? Or the Union Jack? The Beatle's ♪♫Love Love me Do!♫♪ ... for a romantic theme! ♪♫Yellow Submarine♫♪ ... could be fun one. Any of the Christmas hymns, carols or non-religious seasonal tunes. Or ones for other occasions ... ♪♫Here comes Peter Cottontail♫♪, come to mind. Kiddy Songs would let you do a nice baby quilt if that was of interest. ♪♫Old McDonald♫♪ would give you lots of subject matter to work with. Another for fun ♪♫A-B-C-D, E-F-G♫♪ (The Alphabet Song), would be another one, just for fun! If it were I, I'd start with my favourite song and see what I could turn it into as a quilt! I'd probably consider appliques, as they help when telling a story in a quilt. And too, I would probably downsize it and do it as a mini, whether applique, or not. |
You've got my mind spinning. This sounds like such fun and I would have a hard time picking just one song. I love music and listen to my iPod as I quilt. With over 600 songs on my device it would be tough to choose. If your in to music, choose your favorite artist and see what titles give you inspiration.

Let It Snow--snowman and flakes
Kinda out of the box thinking--but a white whole cloth using winter-time motifs. Call it White Christmas |
You Are My Sunshine, White Christmas, The Green Green Grass of Home (may not be the proper title).
|
My daughter's guild did this two yrs. ago and she did "I Left My Heart in San Francisco"
|
If you're of my generation how about Run Around Sue by Dion and do sunbonnet sue? Too funny!
|
Many years ago, we had the same challenge in my guild. I made an all ivory crazy quilt (I used laces, satin, velvet, etc.), scrapbook doodads and Barbie clothes. Can you guess the song? "The Wedding March". My gown was ivory colored. As a label on the back, I included my DH and my wedding photo. I will try and post a photo if I can. This can be a fun challenge. Many, many great songs/music out there!
|
Ellvis' Love Me Tender. The first few notes are the ones shown on the gate at Elvis' residence. You could maybe applique those musical notes.
|
My first thought went to a Christmas song, my favorite time of the year! We Three Kings...We Wish You A Merry Christmas, Frosty the Snowman...and so on. Good luck on choosing and have fun!
|
Last year, at the Palm Springs Mancuso quilt show, I saw a huge exhibit of quilts/wallhangings inspired by the Beatles songs. They were extremely creative. Many of them used fun embellishments. I would do a search on Beatles quilts for inspiration.
|
I was thinking along the lines of "One Eyed, One Horn, Flying Purple People Eater". Or "Ally Oop!"
|
Oh my gosh, someone else remembers Green, Green Grass of Home. I used to love that song and no one else here can recall it. Was That Tom Jones?
