Regarding "puce"..... when I'm making swap blocks, sometimes I'll google the color and click "images", and that will help guide me in my fabric selections.
However, when I googled "puce" I got some verrrrry interesting images! p.s. Posts # 62 and 63 in this thread are hilarious to read back-to-back!! |
I have fabric left from making all my 2 daughters clothes..and they are 45 and 47..and it's as good today as it was back then...still nice and folded to go with all the new stuff...

I love the old feed sack prints, I have made many quilts, kitchen curtains, and aprons from the over 800 feed sacks I have obtained, some of which are still stitched from the old feed mill. They are so soft, and some of the colors and patterns are amazing.

Just laughing at "puce." I bought a new Columbia two layer winter coat this year. The outside layer is definitely a greyish-brown, but the inner layer is a purple-ish brown - puce. I love it, and I get compliments every time I wear it.
Fabric colors and patterns are so much a matter of taste. I have made several quilts that were in shades of brown, which I love, but so many others avoid. Same with oranges, yellows, greys and greens. I have very little red or true blue in my stash, because those are not colors I am drawn to. Different strokes. I love the idea that if you think a fabric is ugly, you just haven't cut it small enough. LOL |
I had no idea that any quilter would consider old fabric not suitable to put in a quilt! I say scrap it in a quilt and enjoy!

Along with avocado green, and harvest gold, don't forget burnt orange--that trio was everywhere!. |
While we are talking about 'outdated' colors, if any of you run across an older fabric, that is best described as blackberry color, pM me?

I have an obsession of owning a Singer Featherweight and my hubby thought he had bought me on but in checking into that beautiful machine it says this one is the sister to the Featherweight. Looks like it has never been used and he gave 20.00 for it at a place where you buy used stuff cheap. It is still in its box.

I haven't been able to find any feed sacks so my two windows in the kitchen are just sitting and waiting till I can find some or something that I think looks like the old days..

I still love the unfashionable" fabrics.
