I'm looking for a pattern to make an Outhouse. For 2011 our quilt guild is going to do a House BOM. We can make any house we want, (house, birdhouse, etc.) Sorry but the first thing that popped into my mind was OUTHOUSE...so I'm on a quest. Any links, inputs, etc., would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, no, I just thought of something even worse!! lol :D

mysippycup2 10-22-2010 11:38 AM

Would this work for you? http://www.quiltpox.com/Patterns/outhouse/
I love that was ur first thought, would have been mine too LOL

scowlkat 10-22-2010 11:38 AM

Buy a piece of clipart from clipart.com. It is then royalty free and you can do whatever you want - which would be to make it into an applique. I do this a lot since I cannot draw. It is relativally cheap too!

scowlkat 10-22-2010 11:39 AM

Hey mysippycup2 found the perfect pattern!

I did one a couple of years ago. I made the house a little more narrow than a regular house. Then appliqued a crescent moon above the door. I made mine small because I put it in the border of the quilt.

Thanks for the good laugh. Interested to see how this one turns out.

Great minds think alike!!! I love the pattern posted. It will surely be a hit with your guild.
Have fun.

mrspete 10-22-2010 12:34 PM

awww you jogging my memory of the half moon hotel! American Poet James Whitcomb Riley wrote an 'ode' to the same. See, a real Americanna, huh?

amma 10-22-2010 12:57 PM

What a fun block to make! :D:D:D

Keepmelaffn 10-22-2010 01:16 PM

@my sippycup2...I just printed the pattern from quiltpox...now the wheels in my head are turning...albeit I do not need to start another project right now (sigh)! Thanks!

Yarn or Fabric 10-22-2010 03:19 PM

I have a list of some houses - including out! - links on my site. Maybe it will help?

When my DGS was potty training I got him a Christmas ornament that is a teddy bear in an outhouse! His nickname is 'little bear'.

Your guild will love your outhouse block!

adrianlee 10-22-2010 05:03 PM

You could even put a little chamber pot sitting on the ground outside by the outhouse door. You could make the moon dark, like it is cut out of the door and then have pair of eyes, just dots, looking out.

Here's a little house we saw on vacation

Another gasious thought, cards: Full House. I don't know what cards make the Full House, but it's a thought.

Hey, this sounded like a f_rt. Are you sure you posted the right file? LOL
BTW, you posted an avi (sound) file not a picture.

EasyPeezy 10-22-2010 07:47 PM

If you go to google image you can find lots of pictures which you can
convert to paper-piece.

This one would be so cute with a moon on the door instead of the window!

I remember a year or so ago seeing a quilt made up with just all different outhouses. It was really cute. Have no idea where I saw it.........wish I could.

Thanks so much for the link. I love quilting houses and have been thinking about making a "house quilt".

I love your quirky sense of humor and no doubt your house of the month quilt will be very interesting. Are you an ole country gal too?

A few years ago I got an email of outhouse painting or decorating contest......I think it was from Texas. Now it was the cutest thing I've ever seen, except a port-a-jon at the end of a rainbow. That's my fav. When I was a child in the coal fields we had an outhouse that was propped against the chicken house. Wonder how many eggs were lost?

snickering to the kitchen.....

Here's a Google link that will give you half a dozen or so.

Now this might be more information than asked about. About 40 years ago, during the Hippy period, my sister was visiting some friends at a campsite here in middle of the state. She noticed couple pines trees close together and two small peeled logs side by side tied to the trees just at chair seat level and a rope and blanket hanging from the trees. That was the Hippy outhouse.

Casperscott 12-30-2010 07:42 PM

a bunch of birdhouses can be made into outhouses.

mrspete 12-31-2010 10:34 AM

Your response to the Outhouse Pattern Request Is hysterical. Wonder how many know what a chamber pot is? In winter it was best friend! Ty for the memory.

mrspete 12-31-2010 10:37 AM

been there, done that, only we had a shovel handy !!
