Outside the box quilt - sizes
Hi...I want to make one of these quilts and I know some of you have done it but can't find the posts right now.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/trilliumdesign/4861441445/ I don't have a pattern and I'm pretty sure I can wing it but what I'm wondering is, what width is the narrow bit that seems to float above the squares? Would that be 1"? Or, more precisely, what do you all think would be a good width? I guess I can do what I want and it will just affect the finished size. I want to do a lap quilt but I don't want the 'floating' bit to be too thin or too heavy looking. I'm not sure if 1" would be too narrow or not...that's 1" finished i.e. cut at 1 and half inches. Thanks :) |
The fence appears to be a 6 foot fence...From that it would seem that the floating squares would be at least 2-21/2 inches I think

Is it the pattern "thinking outside the box" by Toadusew? I believe it is done in quarter log cabin blocks. Maybe someone who has made one will help.

Janice - i'm very glad you like my quilt. The book has been referenced above as noted by Ginger. There is also a flickr group dedicated to the book which you might find helpful since there are many versions of this quilt design shown within the group.
