Outstanding Quilt Shops?
I have 1 week left of vacation before I return to work as a Special Education Teaching Assistant in the Chicago suburbs.
I am willing to drive a long way for an outstanding quilt shop. Last time I did this I drove 6 hours to Hancocks of Paducah. It was worth it! I see Missouri Star Quilt shop is about 6 hours away. What shops are worth a long drive? I hate driving, but love quilt stores. :p Thank you, Elise |
Morris Illinois-fabric center.....friendly and eager to help.....
Princeton, Illinois-Quilters Garden....having a good sale right now! |
My favorite is Quilts & Quilts the Fabric Shop in Branson Missouri. http://www.quiltsandquilts.com/
I've been to most all the major shops, Keepsakes, Handcock's of Paducah, Missouri Star, Quilt in a Day, so many others I lost count and love them but this shop in Branson has been my favorite. |
Have you checked out the shops in Shipshewana, In? Lolly's and Yoder's are both awesome.
|
Thank you both for your ideas, I will check out those shops.
I should have added to my original post that "Kits" are my favorite thing to buy. What shops have a great selection of kits? |
Quilting Bee in Mahomet and Wooden Spool in Effingham . Both are great shops and when heading that way both are must stops.
|
I agree with KwiltyKahy about going to Shipshewana. My DH and me went there last summer as we traveled across the country and I felt that town had the best ever quilt shops and there was many. Just go and enjoy and hopefully it is close enough for you to take a drive.

Sorry-just read the rest of the replies and I am not sure if the shops carry kits or not. I am not a kit person so wasn't looking for those but I sure was overwhelmed at all of the beautiful fabrics in the shops

Have you looked in Green Bay, WI? I was just up there and there are at least 3 shops very close together. I think there are another 3 up there too.

The Quilt Merchant in Winfield, ill. I truly love this shop. Then there is Boline’s in Bloomington. Great prices here. Well known BRands (Marcus, Moda, Henry Glass, etc) $6.99 a yard, sale room even less. Batiks are $8.99/ yd. Great well lit and sparklingly clean store. Both stores offer classes and both have lines of their own patterns in addition to other well known designers. I hope you put both of these on your list of shops to visit.
