My husband and I will be traveling from South Carolina to Massachusetts. We usually go 95 but this time we are taking a route that brings us thru part of PA. I have begged him to take me to Amish Country and wanted to get some info on which are the good quilt shops and where they are. I only have one day but Im on a mission!!!Any input would be very appreciated.

The place to go is Lancaster County, PA. The town of Intercourse has two quilt shops in the same block. The other place that comes to mind is Denver, PA. It is right off the PA turnpike and the shop is called Sauders. I live in northern Maryland just below the PA line. The Amish area in Lancaster county is about 1 1/2 hours from me. It is well worth the trip. I believe it is PA #462 that goes through the middle of the town of Intercourse and the shops are on that street. Hopefully someone on the board who lives in PA can give you better directions or even addresses.

Can't give directions, but I will second the shops in Intercourse. Went there a couple of years ago on the way home from Myrtle Beach. Hubby had to pretty well drag me out of there!

Shandy Maple is OK but it's just food.If you can go to Intercourse, GO. (In Lancaster they are called fabric shops. QS sell quilts not necessarily fabric) Intercourse has fabulous FS (Country Store?)with small museum up stairs, Zooks FS for better prices. Plenty of places to eat, art and gift shops and a ton of other things. Take 340 (the main street) west toward Lancaster City and there are small fabric places along the way. You go through Bird-in-Hand which has a farmers market, QS and FS, bakeries, etc.
The FS in Denver is wonderful but it's a bear to find. Nor is there a real need to as it has now merged with Zooks in Int.
I've lived in the Lancaster area for 10 yrs. and these are the places I go. Have a wonderful time, it's beautiful country.

I agree with everyone else here. The Goodville link is a great resource. I can't remember the name but there's also a place in, I believe, Bird In Hand that looks like a house that is amazing. It's a rabbits warren of rooms full of fabrics at great prices. Also in Intercourse in addition to the shops already mentioned is one that just opened last year called Bitty Kinna's. It's on the same main street as Zook's but in the opposite direction from the main parking area (if that made any sense). I also agree that a trip to Denver is not really necessary and the shops are a bear to find. It's well worth the trip from Intercourse to Lancaster as bobquilt3 suggests - great fabric shops as well as others along the way. Depending on your energy level it call all be done in a single day. I live in central NJ and it takes me about 1.5 hrs to get there. Well worth my time and gas.

I knew I could count on you guys for good info. I am writing things down and thank you all for your suggestions. Ill let you know how I make out. I will be going early May.

Absolutely the Old Country Store in Intercourse. My husband took a picture of me surrounded by all the fabric. The prices were great there too. Have fun.
