The food sold outside the center is fantastic! In the back (everytime I've gone) there are picnic tables set up around a barbecue seller That's where most of the quilt vendors and well known quilters from the show will catch a quick meal. No tables at the front food vendors.

ok, now that I read all the post on the big "shoe", when is it???? I would love to go, I live in Illinois and could drive to Benton or Marion to get a room and on! If I can get it to work with my schedule and wallet! Oh forget the wallet!

deedum 01-30-2010 03:01 PM

Ok, found the dates, it may be just doable!

My friend & I have a "tradition" that we go outside to eat BAR-BE-CUE!!! OMG -- it's just great!! And, of course, you have to stand in line. But last year, Ricky Timms was standing in front of me so it wasn't such a bad wait.....

Thanks for the tips on the water and crackers and candy bars. Did not think of that. I am staying at Moors Resort in Gilbertsville, Ky. Can't wait.

rexie 01-30-2010 06:10 PM

I used to work at Moors Resort in another life. They have really done some major remodeling over there.

Actually, last year, they had lots of tables in the front area. It was under the building, behind the food vendors. It was in the shade and they had lots and lots of tables. Look for it. Last year was the first year that they did it. It made me think of a parking area.

Since they didn't have the basement area last year, I didn't know that they had food vendors in the back. Hmmm, guess I missed it.

Save room for the strawberries and ice cream the Scouts sell. Yum.

Rexie-from their website, looks like they are adding 2 new cottages for this summer. They seem to be very thoughtful over the phone; hope all goes well. Looks like a nice place.

rexie 01-31-2010 07:38 AM

I worked in the restaurant. Made good money, but now too old. Their restaurant prices are kind of high from what I've heard, so you may want to eat before you get there.

Ginaky 01-31-2010 07:49 AM

I just made my reservation--I'm staying at KY Dam Village and I get a government discount since I'm a state employee! Now to just convince my boss not to schedule a board meeting that Saturday (which he usually does!) I think I'll tell him this year I'm going one way or the other. He does interfere with my plans at times!

rexie 01-31-2010 07:56 AM

That would work, then you could take the trip off as a business expense on your taxes. If you need any restaurant advice...just let me know.

charvan 01-31-2010 09:54 AM

Rexie-thanks for the info-will plan ahead.

Baywatch quilter 01-31-2010 10:14 AM

I haven't been recently... but have been about 8 times... it is a zooo.....so be prepared. My favorite three things are...1. the quilt show and vendors...of course. 2. The AQS Quilt Museum about 3 walking blocks from the convention center. 3. Hancock's for fabric buying. HAVE FUN!

Honey 01-31-2010 11:06 AM

Darn! Now I have quilt show envy!! Sounds like you are going to have sooo much fun. I'm afraid if I went I would end up with so much new stuff I would have to have it shipped home!

rexie 01-31-2010 11:26 AM

For your convienience, there are UPS stations just for that purpose.

Honey 01-31-2010 11:48 AM

WOW! They do have everything. Sounds like a trip I need to start saving for!

deedum 01-31-2010 02:21 PM

Oh no! I checked my calendar and I am on a retreat THAT weekend! I really want to go to the Paducah show!!! I don't want to let my friends down at the retreat! Darn, darn, darn!

ANYONE here on this board, wanna plan to meet me there and share a cottage and car....

sandpat 02-05-2010 04:19 PM

Gosh, I sure wish I could...I bet you find someone though. I assume your DH took the news well?

Pam S 02-05-2010 06:11 PM

Two years ago, I went to the show (just for Saturday) and took the whole family. My 12 year old went with me while DH and the other 2(teenagers) bummed around - they were all extremely bored and complained because our hotel had no pool and no wi-fi. Except for DH who even went to Hancock's and waited in the car while I went shopping. This year my daughter (now 14) asked if she could skip school on Friday so we could go back (without the rest of the family) and spend more time there. She keeps talking about how fantastic it was. I think I'll make a quilter out of her yet!

vangel34 02-05-2010 06:39 PM

Anyone from Nashville going? I hate to drag my husband, but then again I've been to 2 comic book conventions with him so he does deserve the payback.

I live in Nashville so if anyone local wants to carpool let me know.

How far is Paducah from Nashville????

2 to 2 1/2 hours. Straight up on I-24.

vangel34 02-06-2010 08:09 AM

Originally I was just going to go one day...but after reading this I may go two days in a row, lol. I don't think I would drag hubby for two days though.

I told him last night that if I found someone to go with me that he wouldn't have to go...he said "you mean you would go with a stranger", lol. Hunny, a fellow quilter is not a stranger, ROFL!

wvdek 02-06-2010 08:31 AM

Oh, I am sooo jealous. I wanna play. Maybe next year.

Wonder if my pack mule will come with me? That's my DH for those of you that didn't know.

Sounds like a blast. Have fun.

sandpat 02-06-2010 04:24 PM

Too funny....your DH thinks we are all strangers!!!  Mine thinks the same thing, then wonders why we all mail each other stuff...

knlsmith 02-07-2010 12:34 AM

I also joined the AQS. Got my free book, pin, and card in less than a week.

when you go the the AQS website and look at admission for the show, my $25 dollars will be paid back in just this one show almost, on the 2 day admission discount for 2 people (hubby and i). then throughout the year you get discounts on even local quilt shows and at Joanns too I think.

Just a little tip.

Ahhh...Jackson, my home town! I sure miss it. Maybe one day I'll get to go back. My mom lives there still and goes to Paducah every year! Maybe I'll have to visit her this year and go along.

Darlene loves Chocolates 02-10-2010 07:49 PM

well.....I told him over superbowl weekend all about Paducah and how bad I wanted to go.....

I hope to get the credit card and firm up something soon.
