Paint for fabric

I would like to know about painting on fabric. The type paint you use and is there something you put down to blend it? I am thinking I saw something about a clear jel than you put on the fabric and add your color to that to blend it. I have some Artwin markers and they don't say fabric but I have used them to fill in where my machine embroidery missed. Don't know if it stays after washed. Most of my stuff is given away and I never heard if it washed out and never thought to check anything of mine. I have some black and white panels I want to add some faint color to. Any suggestions?

Oh my! Now here is something that isn't an easy answer. There are dyes, crayons, inks, paints and even natural things that can be used to color fabrics. Then there is the processes that are all different too. Printing, painting, pencils, air sprayers. This link might help you going into the right direction for you.

I think the dye pens might be the answer for the black and white project.
