Painting a Featherweight

I just bought another FW (see my thread about it) and I'd like to have this one painted. If any of you have had this done, please let me know who painted it and how it came out. Pictures are always welcome!

Patrice, I would do a search on the vintage machine forum. I remember reading several threads on painting when I considered it. There were some who sent it to the auto body shop, others who did that and it didn't work. Some did it themselves. There was lots of info there.

Are you talking about the vintage machine section of QB? I did that search and the only name I came up with was 89 at that time. and would be in his 90's now and nothing recent on him. I did find a couple other references on patternreview.com's forum and another. DeskDave was one and Featherweights in Color (or something like that) was another.

Patrice, I thought of The Featherweight Shop as a source for painting your new machine. Not sure if they do but it's worth a look.
I'd like to paint one of mine but can't imagine doing it myself. I'm not good at that sort of thing.

I just ordered some stuff from the Featherweight Shop but they didn't have anything on their website about painting FWs.. My husband is a fair painter, but we do custom cars and know paint which tends to make you a perfectionist. I've seen several at quilt show that, to me, were obviously DIY paint jobs. There's a lot of difference between rattle can paint jobs and professional. I'm not quite ready yet to get it painted (meaning I haven't yet saved up the money) so I'll probably do some looking and see what I find. I did like that both DeskDave and Featherweightsincolor serviced the machines before sending them back. I could probably get it painted here by one of the car paint guys we know, but who knows how it would come back to me?
