Glad to hear nothing happened. I have the left the iron on overnight without realizing it.

My biggest worry is my cat knocking it over. She likes to see on my little ironing board, even next to the iron when it's on. I've even seen her sniff it.

Sheri and Kathleen, I'm glad that nothing bad happened. I, too have left my iron on before (but just overnight), so when I am finished ironing, I unplug and lay the cord on top of the ironing board. The last thing I do when I leave the room for the day is close the window blinds. I have to reach around ironing board to do it, so I see cord.

I do this also . I had to because I was forever leaving the iron on. It makes for a simple solution.

Gramma B. Are you all alone after having surgery? I hope not. The iron is the least of your needs if you have just had surgery. Be careful. Hugs to you. Barny

I always place the cord on top of my ironing board when I leave the room - bless your quilting angel for watching over you all.

my iron shuts off by after it sits still for awhile. I am glad you both are Ok and no fires.

Wow! You definitely have someone watching over you!

glad all is well. i plugged my iron into a surge protector and plugged in my light also. i turn them both on using the switch on the surge proctector and turn it off the same way. that way i know if the iron is on because the light is on.

I am so glad the iron didn't start a fire. You truely received a blessing from above.

I have my iron on a power strip also, it gets turned off when I'm done sewing. It also has to get unplugged from the wall as I have 4 dogs that like to lay in my sewing room; more than once I've come in to sew in the morning and the iron is on the floor. One of the 4 has laid on the cord and pulled it down.

man, I have done that...with my cordless iron..it cuts itself off, BUT I have found that it also can turn back on..I make a point now to take it off of the cradle all together, and I turn off the outlet strip! WAs thinking about getting one of those light switches and outlets like in my living room..the outlet will not work unless the light is turned on! Wonder how hard that would be to have put in the sewing room...only need two outlets to be like that!

Thanks, everyone for your concern and great suggestions. I have an auto shut off iron that I have used in the past, just as a safeguard, but I am doing a lot of paper piecing and I am using a small Rowenta travel iron which is great for that, but doesn't cut off. Even with the auto shut off I have found myself checking and rechecking that it is off. Now I think I will try some of your advice, probably the surge protector and lamp idea. I am feeling much better now and almost back to normal, whatever that is! You really know how to help someone feel better!

Wow you sure must have a quilting angel watching over you and a very good one. I am so happy you are doing better
and the iron did not start a fire. Lucky you. Take care of yourself and keep quilting.

I have been using a travel iron, & love it, but I have noticed, when I turn it to the off position, it does all go cold, so I know it stays on a bit. So, I have just gotten into the habit of turning it off, then unplugging it. I also check my studio, one last time, before I go to bed at night. It's the bedroom right across from ours, so no biggie, but makes me feel better doing it, just in case.... Glad no one else has had any iron problems like these!...
