I don't use paper for paper piecing any more. I buy foundation "papers" that don't have to be removed. They come in 8-1/2" x 11" sheets that can be run thru an ink jet printer. They are a little pricy, but worth it for the time I save NOT tearing it out. There are several brands -- June Tailor, Ricky Tims and Sharon Shamberg (both of them sell the printer sheets and by the yard) and one other that the teacher's name escapes me right now. The fibers breakdown when you wash it, after it has been quilted.

I use the stay in papers a lot too. More for foundation piecing then paper piecing. If the paper piecing has a lot of small parts I use the stay in. I believe because something is cheap or free doesn't mean I have to use it when there is a better product.
