Moonglow is a free pattern on jinnybeyer's site, and one of it's options is paperpiecing I think.

Carol Doak literally "wrote the book" on paper piecing and she has an awesome book "Paper Pieced Mariner's Compass"
You can't go wrong with it. |

My favorite Mariner's Compass pattern is the one by Brenda Henning of Bear Paw Productions:
http://bearpawproductions.com/QuiltingBasics.htm It is easy to follow, has 'stop dots' that help a lot and it turns out fabulous. There used to be a video of her doing this on Quilters TV; I'm not sure if it's still there anymore. |
I agree that Carol Doak is the BEST teacher of Paper Piecing ever...,however you simply must see the Mariner's Compass designs of Judy Mathieson. Do a Google Images search to see her works.

There is an awesome Mariner's block here on the board...it is in with the 2007 BOM's  Our board member Tim shared it with all of us :D:D:D

kayewoodtv.com has a wonderful video to watch on mariner's compass. You can also order the kit.

http://bearpawproductions.com/QuiltingBasics.htm . Brenda also makes the Triangulations DVD, which is my go-to for making half square triangles. You print up the size you want on your printer, and away you go. Makes tons of accurate HST's very quickly (the usual methods are tedious). Sample page: https://www.bearpawproductions.com/u...ple%20Grid.pdf The sheets, pinned to the fabric, make great leaders and enders, or work well for days you don't want to think, just sew! I put the completed HST's in a drawer till I have tons then I free design with them on the design wall. Also fab for making sawtooth borders. |
Thank you for reawakening this old thread! I have a friend who is not very tech-savvy, she has been looking for a mariner's compass pattern. I'll show this one to her.
