I've been looking into it also. It does look easy and you can find many sites and books on it, but I just haven't figured it out. I asked my LQS to do a class on it. I think they will very soon. Can't wait!

You can indeed use small scraps. Like everyone here said, Carol Doak is the guru on paper piecing. If you can, find one of her books (check used bookstores, the library or Amazon). She published variations on Easy Paper piecing. The instructions are very clear and she is good about providing lots of patterns.

better than her book (Doak) get the DVD-so much easier to see her do it than read it!!!!! I too, was confused with it until I SAW the DVD and now I enjoy doing it......but there is definitely a learning curve.

The first time I tried it was with Carol Doak's book, Your First Quilt Book (or it should be) or something like that. Takes you step by step in making a heart wall hanging. I was so proud of myself for figuring it all out! Still hangs on my wall after many years!
