Paper Piecing Find

Found a bag of vintage fabrics at a Wichita flea market Sunday and discovered the long-ago quilter had cut out a bunch of shapes including hexagons. Someone had sent me a sample pack of hexie papers from paperpieces.com and they exactly fit. Then I went on the website and realized there were several fabrics cut in shapes to fit their papers, diamonds, chrysanthemum, etc. These are not repros, but old stuff, maybe 30's and up. Since I am visiting DD, I looked around for heavy paper and ended up using a paper sack from flour which was just the right weight for making more pieces. Cut a bunch, washed and ironed the fabric and am having so much fun! Of course doing lots of fun stuff with grand kids, but nice to have handwork for quiet moments. When I get home I'll have to order more precuts, as this is additive!

Lucky you....a great "antique" fabric find....and you found something new you love doing. Doesn't get much better than that.

I use the cards that are inserted in magazines. They hold up so well, after I take them out I can use them over in another one. Try it!

I just printed them out on computer paper and I also made some out of card stock, you can use anything that you like the weight of and it is fun and you can get so much done in little pieces of time. A great take along in a baggie for in the car or waiting for the dr. etc. Congrats on all the old fabric you found, what fun. Happy 4th That is a good use for the cards that fall out of the magazines too, great idea!

Great treasure you found.....yes, they are addicting....here's another one Lucy Boston Honeycomb crosses.....

Watched F&P episode on my local PBS station yesterday and Eleanor Burns was guest doing a hex tablerunner...by machine...cute...did it with diamond template and equilateral triangles for fillers.....I wonder if this is an EB pattern...will look into it

The advertisement cards included in magazine make a great weight for the hexies. Punch a small hole in the center with a small hole punch and you can flip out the paper after you have sewn rows together.

Enjoy! I know I love quiet times and handwork.

Thank you all for such great ideas and comments. Half way across the country from my house, but log in here and feel like I'm home!

I think the hexie paper pieces you can buy are so inexpensive and such good quality that it doesn't make sense to cut them out myself. I bought 1200 pieces for $12.00 It would take me a year to cut out 1200 myself and no guarantee they would be perfect
