I have a couple of questions for PPer's. What kinds of paper have you had the most success with? Do you have suggestions for making paper removal easier. :?:

I have used plain photocopy paper, the Carol Doak paper and the June Tailor nonwoven foundation sheets. All of them go through a printer easily, but the Carol Doak paper didn't photocopy (too light) and I haven't tried to photocopy the June Tailor.

As for paper removal, I try to remove the paper in the opposite order that I sewed the fabric on. Carefully fold the paper on the stitching line before tearing. And I don't start at the stitching end, but somewhere in the middle of the seam. I've read that some people pre-sew the stitching lines with an emply needle before sewing the fabric on to make removal easier, and someone suggested lightly spraying the paper with water to make removal easier.

I use mainly copy paper. I would not use water, it will just make the paper harder to remove.
You should shorten your stitch length when PP, it helps stabilize the stitches while tearing the paper away and it also makes tearing easier. I fold the paper and then put my hand on the main part and tear the pieces off with my thumb and index finger. I do not have any trouble tearing it and have very few pieces that stick in the seams on a whole quilt top. I will remove the little pieces in the seamlines, at the intersections, as I sew the rows together, leaving the rest intact until the whole top is done. It is easier to get those little buggers out at that time then when they are all stitched in :D:D:D

I've used several types and prefer Carol Doaks paper which I've found in the LQS and online at half price.

I just use regular copy paper , and shorten my stitch length and that seems to make the paper really easy to remove

Does being able to see thru the paper help?

i feel that it does - i would always choose to see what i'm sewing instead of sewing blind though.

the paper is called Neenah Paper UV/Ultra II Translucent 17 weight in Radiant White.

The best I have ever used is the old fashioned tracing paper. Impossible to find now. Klue is the paper you use like tracing paper of old?

I found tracing paper in a tablet at Walmart.

i don't know what old fashion tracing paper is to say.

this paper is like a very light weight vellum. its not flimsy at all like tracing paper.

its like paper except you can see thru it and it rips away from the stitches with ease and you don't have little piece to pick out.

you can still find good old fashion tracing paper...look in the childrens craft areas...(coloring book isle)it is usually right next to the construction paper :)

Klue ~ Thanks for the website; I love paper piecing and am tempted to place an order. What I have used so far is Carol Doak's foundation piecing paper. Have you used that and are you able to make a comparison on the two products? I've had no problem in copying with the Carol Doak paper, but although I shortened my stitch length it was difficult to pick pieces of her paper out of tight "nooks & crannies". I'd be interested in your comment. And do you do alot of paper piecing?

i've used both and they don't even compare. i tossed all the carol doak in the trash once i discovered this paper.

if you knew me in real life this statement would shock you because i'm known for being a frugal person.

I don't know the exact shipping charges. It's by UPS Ground and will be calculated by weight and size of package. I'm waiting for the email to tell me exactly how much and then I'll confirm. If you have a location of their store by you, you can have in store pick up.
