Press so the sa go in a spiral around the center.

I press that final seam open, swirl the other seams and trim if necessary.

Watch how Eleanor Burns unstitches and swirls the centers of blocks. It will get them to lay the flattest. I don't have the video links but I'm sure you can find them on the internets somewhere.

Thank you all for the information I will try that and will check out Eleanor Burns if I can find it.

I watch all QIAD shows - I didn't realize she removed stitches - will have to rewatch her shows

I have the same dilemma and not sure how I am going to be able to solve it. I thought I had followed all the directions for the Maine Star (Carol Doak's) but now wish I had just ironed all the seams open. The stitches are so tiny, I doubt I will be able to see to remove a few to make the seams swirl. As a alternative I may try beat them into submission by gently whacking them with a rubber mallet to flatten. I have information stored in My Pages but not sure yet how to access them.

Why didn't I think of this before I had constructed 28 out of thirty blocks.

LOL Grocifer! Now there is a technique I have not tried yet! So funny to picture doing that and having DH come in and ask why!

Hey, whatever works! Sometimes we just get desperate.
