I am so intrigued by paper piecing, but like many others here stumped on how to do certain aspects of it. I do better with directions and watching someone actually do it. I am going to go to my local library tomorrow and check out their how to videos. I have checked out quilting videos there before and thought I would pass this idea on. If they do not have the one there that I want, they have access to libraries in other states and it is just a matter of doing a search through their data base.

Piece O' Cake books which you can see on their website have lots of help about paper piecing. The biggest help for me wastheir suggestion to use vellum paper which is see through for eaze of placement. That one thing changed the whole journey of paper piecing for me.

Iffum you can find the book by Carol Doak, "Piecing 50 stars", it comes with a DVD that shows you how to PP. That's how I learned.

thanks for all of your help. i haven't done paper piecing before and this will help me when i get ready to do one. i found a xmas tree skirt that is paper pieced that i hope to do before the holidays. jeanette.

Yvonne should write and illustrate a phamplet on this topic. I let the pp so intimidate me....but she got me straightened out in a hurry. Her directions were clear, concise, and very very easy to follow. My big hangup was where to start. So many pieces aren't numbered to be able to follow the pattern correctly........she told me to go for it and when I did I amazed myself. Now I'll pick out pp sometimes. :D

I think half of all problems when learning something new is the fear of the unknown. My siblings and I are so lucky because our parents managed to raise us to fear nothing! They gave us the gift of thinking we could do it all!!! Somethings are harder to do than others but we do persever because we "know" we can do it! :lol: Mama said!

i'm the same way. really need to see it done. i took a class at a local quilt shop. there were 6 of us and we had a blast. i think i paid maybe $20 to take the class and used my own scraps to make a lovely pineapple paper pieced small quilt.

I just seriously fell in love with that quilt nanabird! I love the pineapple block anyway, but your rendition is one of the prettiest I've ever seen. :)

Love the quilt. It is beautiful!! I, too, am addicted to paper piecing. I had trouble at first but once I learned how to put that first piece on I was all set. I'm working on a wall hanging now. Will post a pic when it's done.

thanks for the kind words. the size is 36 x 42.
paper piecing is kind of addictive. it really allows you to make a perfect block. every point sharp and every seam precise. all you have to be able to do is sew on a line on paper. then of course you have to remove the paper :(
also shorten your stitch length. makes it easier to remove the paper.

That quilt is awesome!!! Now I must look for that pattern, you have some beautifully colored scraps, Nanabirdmo!!

Paper piecing is easy. You just have to learn to sew upside down and backward. LOL
