Can you tell by looking at a pattern if it's a paper piecing pattern? Can you tell by looking at a completed quilt? I've always wondered about this.

Thanks

Well it depends on the pattern - some you can tell others nope, for both questions

I don't know if you can always tell...but there are some really intricate blocks that if I looked at them I would be able to know if I could piece it any other way, or if I thought paper piecing would be the only way to make the block come out accurately. I only would paper piece if I had to as it is not my favorite way to piece.

No I really can't.

Yes, some you can tell by looking at the quilt or pattern picture. Some it is a pretty sure bet, and others can easily go either way.
Patterns by certain designers known only for PP

An example would be animals that are intricately pieced, with very small, teeny pieces. Blocks with a lot of long and narrow spikes.
The more PP'ing you look at or do, the easier it is to spot :D:D:D

Sometimes yes sometimes no.

most times yes, once in awhile i get surprised...really you did not paper piece that...wow!
but most of the time it's fairly easy to tell the paper pieced designs... things take place that are simply impossible with just piecing

Seems to me that the most intricate patterns are paper pieced.

well- if it's something my sister did- yes- it crinkles because she forgot to take the paper off the back.

sorry- couldn't resist.

I don't think you can always tell because some can piece very intricate patterns without PP.
