I would like to learn to paper piece. Is there a good book on this, most of the ladies in my quilting guild just groan when I said I would like a lesson.

check out books by carol doak. she has few beginner books that are quite good. Once you get the hang of it, it really isn't too hard to do and it's fun!

Carol Doak is the best instructor I know. She has many published books and you can also go to her website to learn more. I took a class from her and it was great. www.caroldoak.com

Carol Doak has a good beginner book, plus if you google *paper piecing tutorial* you could probably find online videos too.....

I'm going to have to agree with everyone. Carol Doak is the master. I believe her site offers free tutorials and patterns. Paper piecing is a lot of fun, but it takes a bit to get the hang of it. It's very challenging at first but and the results are spectacular. I waste a bunch of fabric, so it's a good stash buster!

Show me how to paper piece by Carol Doak is a wonderful way to learn. I just did the small wall hanging that is the project of that book. It was easy :)

Great avatar, gypsyquilter. Yes, Carol Doak is the paperpiecing master. Actually, I have two pp books to give away in my next PIF round. I like to wait until I have a PO trip coming.

Carol also has excellent DVD's too :D:D:D

You can learn a lot just by going to Carol Doak's site, Caroldoak.com. She offers lots of free patterns, and any of her books are great. Lots of them come with DVDs so you can resize patterns.

Watch paper piecing tutorials on youtube. No need to wait for a book or dvd to arrive.

Just search for "paper piecing tutorial"...

And, join Carol Doak's yahoo group. You'll love pp'ing once it clicks.

I took a class at my LQS using Karen Stone's book called Cinco de Mayo which was all paper pieced. The teacher was great and my project took me a couple years to complete, but I really got hooked and would love to do more. Maybe I need to put that on my to do 2011 list.

I learned to paper piece from our very own Amma, she gave a tutorial may need to search for it. It was very easy to follow, I picked right up on it and away I went!! :-) :-) :-) Thanks again amma.

Carol Doak and Alex Anderson have great books out there for paper piecing. Agree with pookie ookie to check out youtube for some videos. Good way to learn. Most of all just have fun!!

This year I became interested in paper piecing, googled it and learned through youtube.com from all of the videos available. There are plenty of free paper piecing patterns available online. So, I actually haven't spent any money on books or patterns.

Oh, and yes, there was a learning curve. Trial and error and redoing have taught me tons. Hope that works for you. One can get so tickled with themselves when it turns out correctly!!! LOL

Yes, Carol Doak I learned via her DVD which I got at Joann's with a coupon for 1/2 price...It's much easier via DVD then book because you see it

Check with your local library, you might be able to get one of Carol Doaks books. Look for the books that have CD's with them that you can load on the computer and watch a tut on it. That is what I did. it is actually very helpful. I made a doll quilt with paper piecing. it was actually one of carol doaks from her website. you will really like paper piecing. My next quilt is going to be paper pieced, well once I get the one done for my SIL. good luck and share what you do when you are done.
