I found this online and I was really interested in it. The problem I see is they use paper for the hexagon. Any suggestions on some other type of material that could be substituted for the paper? That still could be made in mass quantities easily.

me neither. If this is the English paper piecing method, paper is the easiest to do. I'll keep trying.

I bought a plexiglass template for a 5" hexagon from Come Quilt with Me
I was fussy cutting relevant farics for friends' quilts; would go fast if you stacked fabrics to cut instead of fussy cutting.

Won't load for me.I want to find a site to print off a page of hexagons.Has anyone tried using card stock paper. The kind you use in your printer to make Xmas cards etc.

While checking to see why the URl didn't load I found out how to remove it, simple. So I showed my newbieness today.

What is wrong with paper? You could use plastic or mylar but paper is easier to cut. I use freezer paper but many people swear by construction paper or cereal boxes. You can also order the hexagons in paper, plastic or mylar in almost any size from many places on the internet. Patti Shambaugh had some plastic ones with a hole in the middle. She would pin a square of fabric through the hole and baste it around the edges then whip stitch a bunch together. She used a chopstick to pop the template back out.

I was basing my question because I thought you had to leave in the paper.

The papers I'm using for my current GFG are cardboardy. I would think that using card stock would be good. Just get the lighter kind. There are differences in weight. I actually bought mine online, was too lazy to cut all those shapes. They are reusable.

I appeciate this: I just order a bunch :-) I am so excited.

I use cereal boxes and can reuse them again and again with no problems. This method gives a nice firm crisp join/edge to work with and is great for some one starting out but you must be accurate with cutting the templates in the beginning. I found that with the cearal box card I could put the pieces I was working with in my hand bag and they did not get creased or damaged, so I could take small amounts of the project where ever I went. I got most of my project done that way, Dr waiting rooms, sitting in the car etc.
