I am an experienced sewer but novice quilter with a supply of 4-inch squares from my daughter's baby clothes. I'd like to find a fun pattern to incorporate them into a quilt. If possible, I'd like something more creative than the "around the world" and alternating colors 9- or 4-patch. Any ideas?

A honeycomb comes to mind.
I appliqued circles onto a background too. Fractured 9-patch: Make a 9 patch with a solid color in the center (I'd use the same fabric throughout) Slice vertically and horizonally and reassemble. |

I've done a ripple design, a diagonal design (like one side of the around the world) and an X design with 2-1/2" squares...sort of like a bargello, but just squares. Just play around with your squares and see what you can come up with. Are your squares all similar (like all pastels) or do you have a variety of values, intensities and hues?

Cut a 7 1/2" square for a center and put the 4" squares around the center square. You can use decorator stitches through the center square to liven it up or fussy cut. I made one like this, except I had an abundance of 1 1/2" squares. It turned out pretty neat.
