pattern for batik
 

looking for a beginner/adv beginner pattern for batik earth tone quilt approx 60 x 72. Thank you for considering this question.

Is the size flexible? Are you working around one fabric, which is earth tone? Or are you adding fabrics as needed? Do you want the quilt to be all batik? Batik and cotton do play well together. Help us to help you. ;)

You just gave me another thought...mixing cotton fabric with batik. Using drks., med., and light, managed scrappy and will add fabrics as I go. Large lap size prob. 50 to 72. Donation for older teen I don't know but requested earth tones for her quilt.

Okay, you got my attention at 'scrappy'. Go to ~ quiltville.com ~ Bonnie Hunter is THE scrap queen and you will find pictures and directions and more pictures of completed quilts. I have made her 'Strip Twist', Happy Scrappy Houses and have a few more waiting for me. :)

I did an "earth-tone-batik" in a Disappearing Nine Patch before Christmas (when I had no real clue what I was doing, so I don't count that one LOL).

I used "Trail's End Batiks" charm packs. Super simple:

Pattern: Disappearing Nine Patch

I agree that Disappearing Nine Patch would be a good choice. It can be scrappy, but it can also be controlled. The look changes depending on your placement of fabrics. The outside corners are not cut, so these larger pieces are often the focus fabric. The center of the nine-path is cut twice, making the piece smaller, so this is often the accent fabric. Google "disappearing nine-patch quilt" and click on "images" to find a variation that you like.

Shadow box made from batiks is beautiful. Mine is sandwiched and ready to be quilted.

I printed off this pattern not too long ago because I think it will look spectacular with different colors of batiks. http://www.modabakeshop.com/2012/10/...ven-quilt.html It calls for 80 - 2 1/2" strips and finishes larger than what you are looking for but you could easily downsize the pattern to fit your needs.

I think lucky stars by atkinson designs looks beautiful in batiks. All u need is a background fabric to add. Great pattern for a teen too.

I love working with batiks and I love easy the first is one I recently did that is stupid-easy. It is blocks of batik 6.5 x 10.5." with a 2.5" x 10.5 strip sewn on each side, making 10.5" blocks (10" finished). The second is a disappearing nine patch I intend to do next.

I've done a Lucky Stars in batiks that came out beautifully. I've also done a super-simple quilt called Simple Logs in various neutral batiks. I'll post a photo from home tonight. I'm working now (can't you tell?).

Why not a Carpenter's Wheel (aka Carpenter's Star)? I've just finished one in earth tone batiks with greens as well. Easy, quick and lovely.

Love this; so simple but yet so elegant :)

I have made this quilt in king size! It really is easy just a lot of cutting but it looks stunning when done :)
