Pattern copywrite question
 
There is a pattern I liked in 70 or 80s magazine....I called company number...it no longer exists....Could i somehow get a copyright on it ....made my own version.......how much do copyrights cost..etc?.....suggestions please

Go to copyright office website for some of your question. Was there any other identification on the pattern. Will you identify the magazine. Perhaps it was taken over by another company.

Are you planning to sell the pattern? Or make a dozen quilts to sell, using this pattern? Those are the only reasons I can think of to be concerned about copyright.

I just want to add that just because that magazine is out of business doesn't mean that the original designer of the quilt pattern doesn't still have copyright ownership.
