well, i started making just a random quilt with some fabric i HAD to have, and i didnt even need to finish one block before i realized it wasnt going to go together the way i wanted it to...easy, lol. what i wanted orionally was a square in a square with mitered corners...thought it would be really cute, but it turns out this is going to maybe not be what i thought.

anyway, it looks kind of like a bow tie, but my pieces are 9 inch x 3 inch and 3 x 3 squares.

any ideas what to do with it now? keep on trucking?

Maybe do it log cabin style?
Cute fabric! My DIL would go nuts over it!

Have you thought about going ahead and pressing and trimming it? Sometimes things can look a little off before you square it up.

I really think it will look nice, when
you have it all done!! :D Do try to
finish one & then decide. I love the
fabric, it's so cute!!
:D :D :D

If it's just the miter part that is getting you down but you like the look of the fabrics in that type of arrangement, you could switch to a Bright Hopes block. It makes a woven pattern when all put together. http://i89.servimg.com/u/f89/13/49/5...h/twist210.jpg
It's a really easy block with partial seams. Here's how to make them. http://quilting.about.com/od/piecing...tial_seams.htm You'd have to cut your rectangles down to 3x6, but the block would still finish out at 9x9 (don't know whether you were giving finished or unfinished measurements, sorry, so I just followed your lead).

You may want to add another fabric that reads more solid. I think the pinks have too much pattern to really stand out against each other.

I do like the mitered look though.

It will look more like a square within a square with mittered borders if you use the same fabric on all 4 sides. You will then have two different combinations.

i'm sorry to say this but.......

i totally love your design, i think it looks so cute!!

i would make the blocks use a solid color fabric for sashing and do some cute quilting of frogs and butterflies on the sashing and borders.

maybe some cute frog and butterflies buttons for fun.

i know its not what you originally had in your head but that doesn't mean this isn't great.

I liked your original idea so here's my take on it. Cut some yellow squares and frame them with the yellow frog pieces. Then frame the green squares that you have cut with the green patterned frog fabrics. Do your mitres but use four pieces of the same fabric in each block.

My first thought is that the block looks similar to thread spools.
