pattern problem

Has anyone tried to make the December candle mat from Connecting Threads? It's a free pattern. I have not been able to make it work to save my life! The hst that go around the main block are the wrong size, I guess. The block is 7 1/2 inches and the hst are 2 inches. But these measurements don't work.
Has anyone got some pointers for me that I could do to make this work. Maybe adding a border?, I don't know. I am very frustrated. Thanks,Gina

I just took a look at the pattern (very cute BTW) and I think you're right.
The math doesn't add up. Maybe you can improvise something. How about
a small border between the block and the red/white border? Too bad
they didn't test their pattern properly.

Have you emailed Connecting Threads to see if they have rewritten the sizes? They have such great customer service I expect they would want to correct any pattern that has an error.

Have you contacted Connecting Threads?? They may have an update if there is a problem

Did you trim the block to 6 1/2 inches as instructed? That would make it finish at 6", and the HST's should each finish at 1 1/2" since they start at 2 3/8".

Maybe mike'sgirl had the same problem I had. This file is a bit weird and when I opened
it the directions were missing. After reading dunster's reply I realised that the directions
were missing on mine so I went back and opened it with xpdf and now it's ok.

This is exactly how to make the block work w/ the triangles. They will play happy together.
peace

Thanks ladies for the reply. I didn't see the instructions to trim to 6 1/2. I will do that and see what happens. Thanks, Dunster for the heads up.
I did by the way email CT and they have not gotten back to me yet. I'll let y'all know if they do. Thanks again, I'll try to post a picture if I can make it work. :)

I feel like such a dummy. I didn't even see that it says to trim to 6 1/2, so now the hst work. Thanks Dunster for being more observant than me. :) I have read this pattern over and over and never saw that. Oh well live and learn. Thanks again to all who had suggestions for me. Gina
