Pattern Selection Question

1 Attachment(s)
I have a Robert Kaufman jelly roll that I think would make a pretty quilt using the Over and Down Under Pattern by Bonnie Sullivan. I took a picture of the jelly roll so you could see the colors & would like to know if you think it would do well with this pattern. I'm not sure about that strip with all the colored stripes but I would not use that piece. I'm thinking it was just to show colors...I'm not sure. It's a 42 piece jelly roll & I would use black for the background. I'm thinking it would be a very pretty, eye popping quilt but I'm soooo not good with color selections. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Has anyone ever made this quilt? Was it easy? I consider myself to be an intermediate quilter.

Oh, I just love that pattern and I think this color pallet would look great!!~~! Way above my ability, I fear!!!

oh the striped piece would make a great binding!!

I agree about the striped piece for binding but there is only one piece of that in the entire jelly roll. I just counted the pieces & it's one of the 42 pieces. I'm hoping I'm not biting off more than I can chew by this attempt. :)

I think your jelly roll would look great in that pattern, especially with a black background. The striped piece could be used as a surprise piece in the backing. I’d hate to waste it.

You chose the perfect pattern for those luscious fabrics!

Yes, I think that will be a great pattern for the jelly roll. You could always go online and buy enough of the stripped piece for binding, although black binding may look good too. I don't think this pattern would be too difficult for you.

I ordered the pattern from Missouri Star Quilt Co. last night & am looking forward to starting on this quilt. I'm not a big fan of square quilts so I'll probably add extra border on the top & bottom to make it rectangular. Thanks for all the input & encouragement. I'm a "go to it & get it done" type quilter but I will be going slow & sure on this quilt & definitely not work on it on evenings when I am tired (that's when I make most of my mistakes...:()

I agree too! Nothing says you can't order half a yard to use for the binding.

I agree, it will be great................

Looks like a winner! I wouldn't put the rainbow striped fabric in the quilt tho, because of all the white. Not even as the binding.

I don't think that pattern is nearly as hard as everyone fears. It's really just a big grid of squares in the middle... either 9 patches or 16 patches and then sewn together. Around the outside are strip pieces with black corners added (snowballed). The hardest part will be keeping the colors straight.

Good choice of pattern. I like stripes as the binding, too, even if you have to order a bit more. Can hardly wait to see the finished quilt. Enjoy.

You could use the striped fabric in the middle, where the white strip is on the pattern. With all the other colors woven in and out, it won't be that noticeable. I have always liked that pattern. Can't wait to see it completed.
