pattern suggestions for big print? - have fun .....
I bought some of this print -- http://www.fabric.com/ProductDetail....3-2a59000a2831 -- and several spotty/stripy blenders in purple, yellow, sapphire, orange-red, and green.
I'm looking for quilt ideas that will show off the big print without chopping it up too much. I thought maybe irregular squares with irregular strip borders (you know -- squares that aren't quite square, and strips that aren't quite the same width all the way) but not sure that is the right approach. I do pretty well with squares, strips, and curves. I can make triangles but if there are too many points coming together at the same place, I will monkey them up. Just so you know LOL . Thanks in advance for your ideas! |
See if the Shadowbox pattern would work with your big print. You could do the shadow in a variety of the darker blender prints?

I also see the squares framed is solids drawn from the colors of the print. I see them in different sizes with different width of the frames. I also see a charcoal/black dimple fabric separating the blocks. I also see no border, just charcoal/black with the main pattern binding or for even better impact charcoal/black binding.

BQ pattern from Maple Island Quilts is great. 12 inch squares with strips on two sides.

I love that fabric! Sorry, no suggestions for a pattern, since I'm looking for a big-print pattern myself. Watching your thread, though!

I love that fabric, if I were making it I would make a large panel for the center and do blocks or strips around it. I did that with a quilt I just gave away, she was in love with the fabric and did not want it cut up to much. She loved it when it was finished.

Oh wow - gorgeous fabric!
How about Warm Wishes: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&s...w=1105&bih=606 |
You can cut Warm Wishes focal blocks any size you want. Just make sure your other strips total that measurement after subtracting an inch for the seams. My blocks are 7 1/2" , so my three other fabrics are 2 1/2, 3 1/2 and 2 1/2. 8 1/2 minus 1= 7 1/2.
