Does anyone have a simple log cabin beginner pattern I can try?

basically, all you do is take a square, add another square of equal size, then you press and you have a rectangle. Then, add a rectangle, and keep going.

Here's another link:

It gives you directions for making the Log Cabin block and the Courthouse Steps block (block sizes 12" for both). It also includes several sample layouts for each block.

Eleanor Burns and Martie Michell (sp?) both have great step by step books to guide you thru it.

I'm working on my second one right now. The first one, I was very careful, precut all the strips the right sizes in a variety of fabrics to ensure scrappiness. What a headache!

This time, I'm just going for it -- have a pile of strips cut, and I pin a piece on and then trim it. Also, I'm using just one fabric for the light side, so I sew many blocks onto one strip and then trim, if that makes sense.

I think these blocks always look good, so I'm not stressing about it this time!

Sounds like a good plan! Good luck
