Pattern using 8 charm packs
While tidying up my fabric room I discovered, or should I say Uncovered, 8 coordinating charm packs! (2 packs of each) Now I need a pattern. All I can come up with is HST and not thrilled with that idea. Need something with s WOW factor, know what I mean?
Thanks for helping this brain fogged quilter. |
How big are the pieces? Is that 5 inches? (forgive me, but I am not familiar with the sizes of pre-cuts) Would you be willing to add in something else of a different size?
I would take a few minutes & browse thru the Moda Bake Shop site. All kinds of patterns for precuts:
http://www.modabakeshop.com/ Scroll down on the right, and click on the "Charm Packs" picture under Bakery to get you right to the specific patterns. I cleaned my sewing room the week before Christmas and also discovered some interesting items. It was like an archeological dig! |
I would check the Moda Bakeshop too and also GOOGLE: charm pack quilt patterns and see if anything from MSQC is displayed. They have a really cute pattern called Falling Charms.
I did the discovery adventure as well.....found an unfinished table topper and a winter wall hanging . As for the charm pack, Hourglass mixed with a square would be nice, or add more pieces and do Warm Wishes.
OH I forgot about Moda....off I go. Bye!!
Lots of Jenny's patterns from Missouri Star Quilt co. are made with pre-cuts.
I agree with Tartan. Jenny Doan at M*QS has many, many quilts made with charm packs. She has lots, and I mean lots, of videos of all the charm quilt. She has a knack for doing things the easy way and I think you would love her. She is fun to watch and learn from. I try her first.

10 Minute block?
Don't forget you can use charm packs to make twister quilts. :)

2 charm packs plus just a few extra from your stash make a very nice size queen 'tumbling blocks' quilt---MSQ you of course use a white to sash on two sides of the block. i think i added about 6 squares of yellow.

Don't forget about the Nickel Quilt books, they were specifically for 5 inch squares.
Oh and I do have a nickel book hiding someplace.
Amanda murphy has a craftsy applique class that has a cute charm pattern, you might see if you can buy it single on her site
Looks like it is only in the class but it is a very cute swirl pattern
I made a Falling Charms quilt and it is very easy to do and looks great.
Check out a pattern by Fons and Porter called crazy eights. It make a medium sized quilt, but with eight packs you would have enough to enlarge it.
Also D4P. I used charm packs for one only they were oversized measuring 6 inches. Set together with sashing and it is one of my favorite quilts.
Jenny Doan does a pinwheel block where she sews 2 charms around all 4 sides then she cuts from corner to corner on the diagonal both ways, you end up with 4== 1/2 square triangles

I'm getting ready to do the same. We had the old part of our late 1700 home remodeled due to some water damage from a broken pipe last January and am finally getting my guest/sewing room back. Who knows what I'll rediscover... should be fun. |
My favorite is a disappearing 9 patch. Finished block size is 13".
Another great idea is the "Good Night Irene" Quilt, which was featured by Fons and Porter; but if you google it, you can find the same blocks elsewhere. It is a combination of 16 patch blocks and X quilt blocks. I did see a Missouri Quilt video on how to make these blocks. Someone wrote that this quilt will take: "233 charm squares (6 packs), 3 5/8 yards white solid for blocks and the inner border and 2 3/8 yards blue print for outer border and binding. The backing takes 8 1/4 yards. The finished size of the quilt is 82X90. You make 36 (8 inch) Sixteen Patch blocks and 36 (8 inch) X blocks."
