I have some Disney Cars fabric that I want to make into a quilt for my grandson. Does anyone have any pattern suggestions? The cars on the fabric are fairly large so I need something that would fit without having to fussy cut the pieces. Thank you

The BQ pattern might be nice. It is made for large prints. Or Focus Pocus ; that is nice to for larger prints.

Here's a search. There are a lot of different ones!http://www.quiltingboard.com/search....s+quilt&u=&s=0

I used a similar fabric years ago, cut 10" (maybe 8"?)squares and surrounded them with different colors of solid 2 1/2" strips. Set them so that each color of the surround-strips went diagonally, and then put on two borders---thin and then thick. Backed it with fleece, did a little quilting, and my middle grandson loves it!!!!

When I have worked with the large fussy cuts, I sometimes like to do an inner border of a reads solid and then stripes in a piano keys type arrangement.

Warm Wishes is another good pattern for fussy cutting special fabrics.

Thank you, now I have some options.

Try www.sidelightquiltpatterns.com or the Robert Kaufman web site for good ideas for using large print fabric to its best appearance. The cars would be cut up if put into squares but you would get the full benefit of the design if it were left whole.
These patterns are for panels but do justice to large prints. Carol J. |

I have two deer panels to use and bought the pattern at Material Matters in Cedarburg WI. My DD needed one for an Oriental panel so this site has several ideas on how to use them to best show them off.
Looked on a PA map for Dillsburg, we won't get to PA this summer. My DH is from the Lock Haven area, lots of family up there. Happy quilting. Carol J. |
Did you find it on a map? lol It's a really small town. I don't live IN the town...actually west of it but Dillsburg addresses take up a large area.
I've never been to Lock Haven but know where it is. One of our really good friends went to Lock Haven State College (this was back when PA colleges were called state colleges...now they are universities) and became a physical education and health teacher. He taught my hubby since he is 10 years older than we are. But we became good friends years later...probably in the mid 90s. He was born and raised...and so was his wife in the Shamokin area...small town called Mifflinburg. Yesterday I sat outside and with the picture from Robert Kaufman's site I drew the design for my Christmas Snow Babies panel quilt. I can't wait to get started but I have to finish this bag soon since I promised my grandaughter I would have it for her before school started...well it started on Monday and I have about 1/2 of it completed. lol |
Yes, I found it on the map. My sister in law was a cook at the Lock Haven State college for years and is retired and they livein Mill Hall.
One of DH's sisters lived in Shamokin Dam for many years and we have been to the fabric store in Mifflinburg and the museum there. Inlaws are in Center and Clinton counties. Been to Indiana PA too, DH's father came from there and we looked up a cousin. Ever hear of Ole Bull State Park in Potter county? Carol J. |
