I have been a member for a while. I read regularly and have gotten lots of good info, tips, and inspiration from this board, but I do not post very much. I know that one has to post a certain amount before selling, but are there rules for paying forward with fabric. In the near future I want to pass fabric on. I would post in the pay it forward thread. Leave it up for 24 hours because I know that people access at different times, then number those who pm me and pick numbers from a hat. I have been blessed much in my life and would like to pass it on.
Are there rules?
Does the above sound like a good way to do it?
Thank you

I am not sure of all the rules , but someone will know and post here to your ? I think it is a great idea and how sweet of you to want to do that.

kathy 08-19-2010 07:38 AM

i agree. very nice of you, indeed!

there's no minimum amount of time one has to be a member in order to give things away.

one tiny point: no matter where you post the announcement - either in the Pay it Forward topic or in the classifieds section - you can't announce it as a drawing of any kind.

you can announce that (for example) the 3rd person who sends a pm will receive the package, but that's as close as you can get to "random".

again ... thanks for your generosity! :-)

Joan in AK 08-19-2010 08:07 AM

Thanks for letting me know about the way to do it.

clem55 08-19-2010 08:35 AM

Very nice of you to pay it forward. I am trying to get my stash built up so I can join in on this type of giving also. I think it is such a nice thing our members do, sending out surprise gifts, secret gifts. I"ve never known such generous people! Bless you all!

craftybear 08-19-2010 08:40 AM

very nice of you, my hubby has been unemployed since July 2009 last year so $ is tight for us

Thanks Patrice J (moderator) for letting us know the rules!

lisainmo 08-19-2010 08:46 AM

I hope to some day be able to help someone also, that time is just not right now as I am unemployed for now. Hopefully this fall I will be able to find a job :) Thank you for being generous to help other people !

tdgiffin 08-19-2010 08:50 AM

You are so kind to offer this. I know that when I joined a very short time ago, angels helped me out with fabric, and now I can make another few quilts with what i have. I did not have the money for these, and I was so so so grateful for the help. I am sure that you will also be a blessing to other people.

mygirl66 08-19-2010 11:10 AM

I think that is a very kind thing for you to do! I try when I can, and want to do more, but I lost my job in April, so things are a little snug.Glad you can help some fellow quilters out!

lynnie 08-19-2010 11:40 AM

where is the PAY IT FORWARD section on this site
thanks

lovequilts 08-19-2010 12:01 PM

Yes, Where is the Pay it Forward section or do you just name your topic "Pay it Forward"? thanks.

dsb38327 08-19-2010 12:11 PM

There is really no 'pay it forward' section that I know of. I think the individual post could be put in the Main or the Classified. There are several posts. This is the primary one: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-45265-1.htm
You mentioned you don't post very often and related that to selling in the Classified. I wanted to assure you that our Admin and moderators have other ways to know if you are an active member of the board. If you did want to sell something please pm Admin or any of the moderators. They can make an exception. Or you could say hello to 20 new members and your title will change to 'regular user'. Then you could sell too.
So nice to visit with you and it is nice for you to share with others.

Do the moderators have ways of enabling people to send items anonymously?

lisainmo 08-19-2010 02:23 PM

I would like to know that also :)

Colbaltjars62 08-19-2010 02:28 PM

Good question..

mollymct 08-19-2010 04:40 PM

That is so very kind of you! I know that I was so grateful to receive a gift from a member of this board after posting a request to buy some materials for hand quilting. It will mean so much to someone. I hope to be able to pay it forward soon myself!

How great of you to share fabric. I sew for a group called Threads of Hope, all quilts are donated to the hospitals for babies. Yes sometimes we get a bit carried away and make larger ones however they go to the hospitals or quilts of valor. we donate our time and ask for donations. we meet once a month to sandwich the quilts, tops are made in our homes, today we sandwiched 30. We would appreciate any you may wish to give. Thank you. Joan Olson

So nice to visit with you and it is nice for you to share with others.

1. Please contact me directly. The other mods will refer it to me, so you can save time by sending me a pm first.
2. The "say Hi to 20" suggestion appears to be a logical idea and i know the suggestion was made with the absolutely best intentions. however, when i evaluate a posting history to see whether or not an exception is warranted, i look for something more substantial than what might appear to be a simple attempt to run up the numbers. i look for participation in the form of suggestions to those asking questions, taking part in discussion of different topics, posting photos of things a member has made, requests for advice on a specific project, etc.

it's about getting to know each other. i call it "a bonding process" that leads to some degree of familiarity and comfort. this is such an easy group to join and have fun with. we just like to know that you really want to be "one of us". we can buy from strangers anywhere. here is the place to buy from buddies. ;-)

we don't have a system for that. there's no way to create one that would keep all the members safe from con artists. it would also require several full-time workers to maintain.
