It pays to procastinate????

Some times it really pays to procrastinate only now I'm torn as to which route to go!

I have a quilt that needs to be completed by mid June for graduation. Finally worked out my design (first time ever doing that and this one is a bit odd - a softball field). Decided I want to use various batiks for all the different elements to give a dappled 'sun lit' air to it. Haven't bought fabric one yet!

Yesterday, get a post card from my LQS giving me 20% off anything in the store for the month for my birthday! Lucky me, right? This morning, DH asks me what I'd like to do for my birthday today. Chat about heading to Baltimore, MD for some crab cakes (yum, yum, yum) but did that last year and dogs are difficult at the moment with allergy meds, etc. He has that covered. Well, how about Lancaster? He's not been there, so we're headed there in a couple of hours. He's really good about fabric shops and such, so that's where we'll be headed.

So I think I'll be picking up bunches of fabric for this quilt today at Lancaster prices and if I still need/want something local, I can get it 20% off! Does it get any better than that? I don't think so!

WOW, lucky girl to have a husband who doesn't mind going to fabric shops. Have a great birthday and shopping trip.

SueSew 11-06-2014 11:55 AM

Have a lovely trip, buy some great fabric and - hey I almost forgot to say that the softball field design is just too too clever for words! perfect square on point? You had better show us all when you get it done!

Thanks everyone for all the kind wishes. Had a great day yesterday. Stopped by hubby's high school alma mater on the way, which he thoroughly enjoyed. VERY tiny private school. Former Headmaster's daughter - who was a child of 8 when hubs graduated (Yikes!) - is the current Head of School so lots of reminiscing for him. Stopped for lunch (don't recall where but very tasty) on the way. Wandered around Kettle Kitchen Village (had to give him some treats for enduring fabric shopping, eh) and popped into Old Country Store. Boy am I glad THAT place is back up and running! Walked out of there with 8 yards of batiks for $77. They will do 1/4 yard cuts so I managed to get 24 different fabrics for the softball quilt! The whites are drying; greens are in the washer and browns to be done yet. Stopped at Quilt & Fabric Shack in Bird-in-Hand (another one of my fav's) and picked up a piece of novelty fabric I also needed.

Hubs and I also fly hot air balloons as a second business local to us. Friends (and the owner of the company we subcontract that for) fly balloons in Bird-in-Hand. Called the office and they were flying yesterday so we managed to hook up with them and decided to all have dinner together at the Bird in Hand Restaurant. Very nice meal.

Weather was relatively mild so when we got home, had some champagne out on the back deck with the dogs with the patio heater going. All in all a very successful, enjoyable and relaxing day!

And the icing on the cake - have not had to appear for jury duty at all this week! Woohoo for me. One more day of that particular torture (the not knowing till after 5PM part). Surely, since they've not called in ANY jurors Mon. through Thrs., I can't see where they'll call in any tomorrow either but it will be a few hours before I know for sure.

I'm with psychonurse, could not get past the crab cakes without drooling. Sounds like procrastination is working in your favor...so far.

oldtisme 11-06-2014 07:33 PM

Happy Belated Birthday & it does sound like you did indeed have a Happy & relaxing day. November is an awesome month for Birthdays!

NJ Quilter 11-06-2014 07:34 PM

I am fortunate enough to get to Baltimore, MD (or vicinity) several times a year for crab cakes....cuz for me, they are the only ones to have! And that was actually last year's gift. We had been to the Inner Harbor a couple of years ago for a long weekend and had a wonderful restaurant recommended by the hotel. So last year we went to Moe's (or is it Mo's?) for dinner. We gave up the traditional gift-giving thing several years ago for birthdays and holidays and instead use those $$ to travel - be it far or near. Baltimore is my home town and there or the MD Shore are the only 'real' places for crab cakes for me. We'll be there in May if not before so fabric was a nice alternative.

What a great decision to go to Lancaster. We were just at The Old Country Store on Tuesday (Nov. 4) and the new owners have done a super job in opening this store again. The prices are reasonable and great quality fabric, as well as a huge selection. The sales people are also very helpful. Zooks is just down the street as well. You probably had a great day. Happy Birthday.
