Pellon Project math driving me crazy!!

Hi. I'm working on this very cute tote and love the project but I can't figure some things out. I'm using http://www.pellonprojects.com/projec...ork-lunch-bag/
On page 2 it says to sew the charms together and then add a 14 1/2 inch strip to the side. If I sew together 3 charms, shouldn't that measure 14 inches, not 14 1/2? I've done this math a few times and am willing to let that go but then I got to the next page and it says to cut two 13 3/4 by 10 rectangles and two 13 3/4 by 2 3/8 rectangles from the lining fat quarter. I have tried over and over but can't figure out how to cut this. If anyone can help, please let me know. I'm guessing my brain just isn't working the way it used to. It seems that if corrections needed to be made to the pattern, Pellon would have done that already.

maybe email them and ask if there are any corrections? or for clarification?

I just looked the pattern over - I think the 14 1/2" on the outside was just a mistake - it could also be extra so after you quilt the piece you can trim it to size - I don't think that will make much difference. On the inside it says that the inside pieces are smaller than the outside - it has pics showing the two pieces that you need to cut - it does seem to be a little confusing but it looks like it will work. Sometimes when my brain won't engage if you walk away and give it 24 hrs or whatever then when you come back it will all fall in place. good luck - its a very cute bag.

Thank you, Otis. I agree and would have just ignored the 14 1/2 but it says to cut those lining pieces from one fat quarter that is supposed to be for the lining. They have you re-assemble the two pieces to make a piece that could not be cut from a fat quarter and I get that. I just can't figure out how to cut those pieces from a fat quarter! :) Yes, I'll look at it again tomorrow as I've tried enough for one day!

You are right about cutting the fat quarters. If you cut 13 3/4" from the fat quarter, that only leaves you 4 1/4". You need 2 3/8" x 2=4 3/4". I agree you should email Pellon. Good luck.

Thanks for checking it for me I was just about to get some graph paper and try to draw it to scale. I can't believe I'm the only one here making this pattern :) but doing some math to see if there's even enough fabric, an 18 by 22 inch FQ would have 396 sq inches and it seems the fabric total for the 4 pieces would be about 340 1/2 inches so something should work, but not what they have given. I'm going to finish putting the outside together and then see how to piece the inside. Maybe a creative pocket will hide any piecing if needed.
