Pellon substitute for Timtex
 

I am making the Modern Tote (F&P Love of Quilting March/April 2014 issue p 22). It calls for Timtex. I tried using Pellon Peltex 72F and my machine about had a heart attack. This is Double Sided Fusible Extra Firm Stabilizer. I'm guessing it's too firm for what I'm trying to do. Is there a better Pellon substitute?

I have only used the Pellon lightweight fusible. I love it so much for t-shirts and other things that I bought a bolt from JAF with a 50% off coupon

What kind of machine do you have. I used the single thick pellon fusible...one side - total of three layers. Very, very thick but my Jamone 7700 worked well with the acufoot...it just barely made it under the foot. Not issues with sewing it though. I am still on the search for the best interface and batting for purses and tote bags.

I was trying it on my Janome 8900. I know better than to try it on the 6600. I'm going to dig out my New Home machine tomorrow and see if it will go over the thickness. That's the machine I usually use for thick things.

I use a one sided fusible pellon - but I can't find the number of it - its thick but if I go slow it works ok. Also - try Annies Soft and Stable - it works great for all handbags and it really gives a nice finish and its easy to work with.

Eek. I'm now dreading making the tote pattern I just got. My machine doesn't even like a regular seam that's too fat.

A couple other options are Decor Bond or Fusible Fleece, both by Pellon. I've used both in bags, and they're great. But Peltex sure makes things sturdy.

I have used Craft Fuse or Décor Bond for a firm stabilizer.

I love, love Annie's Soft and Stable.

Well, I tried it on another machine and that one made awful noises too. My husband says throw it out! So I'm abandoning the one I've started and will have to see if I can find something else to use that isn't as stiff. Thanks for the advice. The next time I place an order with Annie's, I'll order some Soft and Stable.
