Pencil marks--Gone!
I posted to this several days ago requesting help removing pencil marks that had been put onto a "rescue" top quite some time ago. Thank you to all who responded.
This is what I did: I used a previously-used soft toothbrush and put blue Dawn directly onto the marks with the brush. Left it to sit for maybe half a day. Added a 1/2 scoop of OxiClean to the washer with hot water. Added the quilt and let it soak overnight. Turned the washer back on to finish the cycle. When I lifted it out, the marks were gone!!! I did run it through a regular cycle with my usual detergent then and did a second rinse. Wow--I am happy as those dark marks, even on white background are gone! Yay--happy dance! |
Yay Illinois! So glad you got all the marks removed!

Dawn seems to be good for so many things.
|
That's great news! Thanks for passing it on to all of us.
|
Yeah for Dawn & OxyClean!! They are my go to products for stains.
Good to hear that you got the marks out!! |
That is great news! Good for you!

Very cool! Sounds like it wasn't hard, either. Good job, and thanks for sharing!
|
Yay, good for you! I'll remember your tricks too.

I am so happy for you. Thanks for the how to info!

Great information. Thank you for sharing your good experience. We all seem to run into these kinds of bad experiences. Mine is a leaking ball point pen on a new tablecloth I made. I have used everything I could think of but it is still with me! I have gotten an amazing amount out but the basic stain is still there in three places. More ideas?

I have used hair spray on ball point ink stains.

Happy for the OP and the removed pencil marks. Have had luck with similar treatment for those. As to the ball point pen...I was going to suggest hair spray as well. Not sure I've used it myself but it is the 'go to' treatment that I have heard for decades. Good luck.

Well, under closer scrutiny under an Ott lamp last night, I could see faint remnants of those pencil marks so it wasn’t 100% but so much better that the proverbial rider on the galloping horse isnt going to see them when on a bed. I’m thrilled with how well this did. Marks that did not have Dawn on them are still visible but are on print fabric and kinda blend so I’m not as concerned about those as I was what was on stark white.
As to ballpoint ink, I’ve had decent results using rubbing alcohol on those. |

Thanks for sharing. I had a pencil mark issue just this week.

Thanks for the update, I am sure this will be extremely helpful to many.

Happy dance to you! So glad you got out the pencil marks!

I have a ball pen, Pilot friXion. It is for quilting, do your marking and run a hot iron over it and it is gone. Best thing I have found. It is only sold at quilt shops. It is wonderful. I have bought some for my quilting friends for Christmas.
