At a recent quilt show I saw several trees decorated with quilt ornaments. One was made with red and white striped yo yos---2 I think--and a little rectangle of fabric,, apparently gathered or pleated and place between the yo-yos. The result looked sort of like a peppermint candy with the ends twisted (the kind you used to get in cellophane.) I couldn't find pattern at the show or later on the web. If anyone knows what I'm talking about and can help with instructions, I'd appreciate it. I tried making one and it's ok, but not as good as I remember.

I would love to make some of those also. Will be looking to see if anyone knows. Beth

Quiltingfan, I did find instructions for another that's cute, but not the one I saw. You might be interested....http://mousechirpy-polkadotpineapple...1_archive.html

Thank you so much. Hopefully I can find sometime to finish my own table runner, mug rugs for gifts, and some of the yo-yos for a Christmas exchange party. We shall see....

Here's another idea for you.

Make two yo-yo's (striped fabrics work particularly well for this) and before you pull up the gathering thread insert an appropriately-sized cardboard circle. (You can cut up an old cereal box, that would be thick enough.)

Take half a shish-kebab skewer (those "wooden ones" that are inexpensive at the grocery store) - about 5" long is enough, and with a hot glue gun, glue the two yo-yo's back-to-back, with the skewer sticking out like a lollipop stick. Hot glue two buttons over the center of the yo-yo's, add a loop for hanging at the top and a colorful ribbon bow on the stick and you have a quick, easy, and inexpensive ornament or package trim.

i saw one of the lollypop ornaments and it's cute, too. hot glue may be the way i should put the other ornament together instead of sewing.....
