A friend gave me a quilt that she received from someone - it has embroidered blocks that are beautiful, but the person outlined the quilting area in a permanent blue marker and then quilted over it - does anyone have any idea how to get the "permanent blue marker out"?

I use rubbibg alchohol, my mom used white vinegar.

wow that is going to be a tuff one i cant think of anything unless the ink is on a solid white i might try a clorox bleach pen other than that i would say it is permanent

thanks for the suggestions - have tried the alcohol and vinegar, also hairspray - they do not work. The blocks were embroidered in a red DMC, which tends to run in spots when the hairspray is used. Some people just don't think!!!

My first thoughts were alcohol and hairspray. One of my sons had a fountain pen in his pocket, left it in his pants, and it leaked thru the pants onto his bedroom carpet. I tried alcohol which just made it run. The man who cleans my carpets was able to get it out. I have no idea what he used but maybe someone in your area might be able to help. Sometimes, our cleaners have been able to remove stains I could not at home--maybe see what they think.

I know that we used a chart cleaning substance at the places where I worked that removed everything but I don't know if safe on fabric. If you know of a hospital medical records person or someone who works at a nursing home in the medical records they could probably tell you if it would work on cloth and maybe even sample it on a scrap piece of fabric with permanent marker on it.

When the red embroidery floss ran in one of my projects, I kept soaking it in oxyclean & washing & letting hang dry, it has finally come out. Not sure if that would help the blue pen, but might help the red run.

Try nail polish remover. Do it in a place it won't show first. It might just smear things up worst.

Just a thought, but are you sure it is pen and not a the blue marking pencil that is actually water soluble? Perhaps it was heat set by accident?

Usually they turn brown if you heat set them by mistake....hmmm...now how would I know that :shock:
