Permission Question

Is it acceptable to use famous quotes, if the author is noted, in our quilts?

BellaBoo 10-28-2012 08:50 AM

Famous quotes are always public or they wouldn't be famous? I think anyone is allowed to quote anyone if it is acknowledged as a quote. We do it on the board all the time. Reader's Digest has been doing it for decades.

Absolutely :)

you just can not sell it, make money from it- or claim it as your own.

I'm sure I understand why you couldn't claim it as your own, but I don't understand why you couldn't sell it. ??

I think ckcowl means whatever you do you must give credit to the author. Yes, you can sell it if you do that. Just think of how many books we couldn't read if quoting with credit wasn't legal.

I love this board. Anytime I have questions I come here first - someone always has an answer. Thanks. I have two projects in mind - one for family and another for selling and both are based on quotes. Nice to know I can proceed. You guys are awesome!
