I'm trying to finish up a quilt I am making from "quilts for kids",they sent me the fabric and pattern, and, quite frankly I've done a shoddy job. I'm to the binding and they want me to do a self binding bringing the back to the front. I always sew on my bindingss and hand stitch them. Have never done any other binding so I don't know what I am doing. Do you think it will be okay to just attach the binding and machine sew it down so it is stronger. I'm pretty embarrassed about the work I've done so far. And I don't want to make it any worse. I'm tempted to just chuck it and donate some $ instead. HELP me figure out what to do! Thanks for the opportunity to vent this!

i would contact your coordinator and ask if it is ok to do what you are suggesting. i'd hate to have you do it and then have the quilt rejected.

I did one QFKs with the binding wrapped from the back, but I didn't like it. It just didn't seem like it would take the wear a traditional binding. The last two I've done with a traditional binidng. I found some fabric that worked and just machine sewed it on like I normally do. QKFs says it is ok to do with the self binding from the back or to add your own traditional binding. They do say it has to be completely machine sewn though - no handstitching.

as long as it is machine sewn, there should be no problem. It really has to stand up to rigorous use.

You can do this as long as it is machine stitched.

I folded mine in half before pulling to the front to make it a double thickness then I sewed it down. That's seems to work OK.

You can definitely machine stitch it down. I have made many quilts for Quilts for Kids, and some I put the binding on the traditional way (but machine sewn), and some the way they suggest.

I bought a bright solid that matched my quilt and used a traditional binding. Maybe that would dress yours up. My bindings are all machine sewn, so that's no problem for me.

i bind mine by machine for quilt for kids and they have had no problems with it i just make my own binding

I always add my own binding and just machine sew it on. I tried bringing the back to the front and bind that way but was a complete failure at it!
