PfaFF 2042 Help
 

Hi all. I purchased a Pfaff 2042 and when the needle goes down, it hits the metal bobbin plate cover just behind the bobbin hole. I would like to take the end cover off and adjust the needle centering, but I don't see how to get the cover off. Anyone know how to do this?

Is the needle pushed all the way up into the proper position?

Yes and I put in a new needle to make sure it wasn't bent.

I'm not talking about the plate the dog feet are in. I'm talking about the end of the sewing machine where the light is in. I see a plastic tab on both sides I could get snapped off, but there is something in the middle at the top holding it on and I don't see a screw anyplace to remove. I have a PDF on how to center the needle once the cover is off the end of the machine, but it says nothing about how to get it off, nor does it show pictures of the cover once it is off.

You need to find an exploded view service manual. If I remember, on some Pfaffs you had to take the whole top assembly off before doing anything else.

If you could just open that part of the head over the needle, you wouldn't need the light bulb changer that used to come with the machines.

You may want to contact your dealer. I don't even try to service my Pfaff. I am too chicken.

Good point about the bulb changer. There are 2 tor screws under the handle and I may need to remove them to take the whole side off. I would love to find an exploded view service manual, but that hasn't been going so well.

I here you Mary, but they want $149 just to center the needle. If I can get it apart, I've got the manual that shows which screws to turn and how to adjust it. That would cost me $0.

I picked it up used for $500 with free shipping. I was told it was serviced by a Pfaff Dealer before it was shipped to me, but when it showed up, UPS had really sent it for a tumble. Everything was all over inside of it and I'm wondering it the needle may have gotten knocked out of center during shipping. Other than the needle centering issue, it's in great shape.

I had that happen once when I think about it. My dealer said to use my controls and move the needle all the way to one side. Then push it the rest of the way. Mine was fine after that. It was a simple fix. It was a long time ago and I forgot about it.
