Hi, I'm wondering if anyone uses this machine and can tell me how they like it. I think this model would be about 15 years old and there is one for sale locally.
Does anyone have an idea whether $500 is a realistic price? It's a little (LOT) stiff for my pocketbook, but it does have the IDT which sure would be nice.
Any advice appreciated!

I don't know the value, but I have a Pfaff 7550 that my late husband purchased brand new for my Mom. When she passed away I got the machine back. She made many quilts with this machine and I have made several. I have several machines so it really doesn't get a lot of use. It is a really good machine. I have never had anything done to my machine aside from cleaning several times. I also have the embroidery unit. What is included in this price?? That might help?

I was wrong, mine is a 7570, but I think they are similiar. Mine was the last one that was actually made in Germany. I kept it because it has a ton of different stitches and it is so smooth to operate.

Thanks for your response, Sadiemae. From what I've been about to find out, the 7550 is the same as the 7570 but doesn't have the embroidery functions.
Do you like the IDT? Do you do any FMQ on this machine? Sounds like you like fine for piecing.

I love it for piecing. I have never used it for FMQ because I have a Fusion. I love IDT. It is wonderful. I hate walking feet and this makes it so you don't need one. My Mom did SID and never had any problems.

I have heard this series of Pfaff are really good machines.

I just realized that I have the 7550 and YES! The IDT is fabulous. The throat opening is just standard but I have SID'ed a Queen or two. Not sure about the FMQ coz I use a different machine for that. It has the front load bobbin and the bobbin case gets oiled. Also has a low-bobbin indicator that blinks but you can keep sewing to use up the bobbin thread.

It does a good job on the decorative stitches but I would recommend using stabilizer.

The lighting is not the best, but not bad either.

It's good needle up/down and tie off. Needle can be adjusted sideways too which works better than the 1/4" foot. (It lands in the middle of the feed dogs) No separate bobbin winder motor. Hm, I don't remember if there is a motor speed control.

I would recommend getting the throat plate for straight stitching or use a leader strip. It likes to eat the start of a block.

One thing I do not like about it is the foot pedal. Mine had to be fixed and even Pat took it apart. He says it uses a sliding contact which can give you a bit of a jerky movement. But I will keep my 7550 as my backup - foot pedal and all.

$500 seems a little high because Pfaff got rid of their 2056 inventory (and it has way more features) new for $999.

I have the 7550 which I bought probably 12-13 yrs ago and I have had no problems with it. I works really well for piecing and I have FMQ several items with it and have done up to queen size quilts. They are a little hard to manage but doable. New the machine was about $2400 Canadian so at that time around $2000 US. It is all electronic so if possible I would want to actually sew with the machine before buying it or have the seller give you some sort of guarantee that it still works properly. If something is wrong with the board on these machines they may still sew but the stitches could be all out of sync and therefore it would be difficult to get your stitch length etc to be what you want. I have the 7570 and it is a wonderful machine. I wouldn't hesitate to pay $500 for another one if it was in good condition.

They sell for lot more than $500.00 on Ebay. I have a 7570 and I woulldn't trade it for anything. They are definatly a workhorse. My LQS has a 7570 and it is $1200.00. You will not be sorry if you pay $500.00 for it. And yes they are very easy to do FMQ on.

I brought a Pfaff 7550 a while back and brand new it was about $2000 including taxes. I think I bought it back in 2004. And I think they were still being made in Germany then. The other top of the line machine I was considering was a Bernina--but they were just too expensive and any attachments were costlier also. I have been very, very satisfied with my Pfaff. It is a great piece sewer and quilts very nicely with the duel feeder. I think $500 is a decent price for this very good brand machine.

I have the Pfaff 7570 and I love it.. its an oldie but a goodie..

I have a 7550 and a 2144. I love both machines and use them both. The 7550 is a real workhorse. it stitches beautifully and the embroidery stitches are perfect. As far as maintainence, all I have ever done is regular tune ups by my dealer. I used the 7550 when I worked for a bridal shop so it earned it's keep and I am still using it. Pfaff builds great machines.

At least they used to. (Did you check the thread about Pfaff and Viking?) At least the older models like the 7550 and 7570 and the 2044s are generally built under the German quality guidelines.

I have the 7570 which does embroidery also and I love this machine....would never even consider letting it go. It has been an awesome machine and yes, it was the last hurrah of the germans before they sold the company. You cannot beat a german-made Pfaff. $500 is a fabulous price for the 7550 unless it's been mistreated you could not go wrong.

Thanks everyone for all the information on this machine. I'm going make an offer and hope I get it. Sounds wonderful and I can hardly wait to get my hands on that IDT. The pleasure of not switching to a walking foot will be wonderful. Got my fingers crossed. I think the thing that worries me most is the possibility of the motherboard going.... I'll be keeping you all posted and additional comments are sure welcome.

I recently purchased the 7550 for general sewing and quilting. I bought it on Ebay for 500.00 which I think is reasonable. I have the 7560 and love it. However, when I opened the machine, it asks for a 4 digit security code which I did not find in the material provided. Does anyone know how to get beyond this code or how to reset this code so I can use the machine. I have emailed the dealer also, hopiing to get an answer. Thanks for you input - Carole

I had a 4 digit security code in mine that I forgot to tell my dealer about during a routine cleanning. If I remember correctly, she turned it on and took out the batteries from the bottom of the machine and that wiped it out. I am not sure on that but I never did reset the code. you could contact a dealer and ask what to do.

The batteries are in the bottom of the machine under a little door.

I have the Pfaff 7550 and I bought it in Germany while we were military. I paid over $1,800 at the time and its truly a workhorse. Due to so much military moves my lever for bring the foot up and down manually broke, they did fix it however it doesn't stick like it used to. It was a present from my folks and I'm not parting with it :) The IDT is what sold me in the first place and it is a workhorse. Anything made after the Pfaff 7570 is not the same. I just recently became interested in a quilting machine. Saw a Pfaff Creative 7550 with IDT, and a 784 Pfaff Hobbylock serger for $1600. Has a Notebook. I have sewn for many years, but do not even know what IDT means nor Notebook.

Two questions, is this a reasonable price? What is IDT and Notebook actually mean?

If I remember right that is the one that is the last Pfaff made that was mostly metal and is considered a really good machine. My sil had one and used it for years. She bought a new one and had her 7550 serviced and put away for her second machine, she won't let it loose! Around here 500.00 is a cheap price to pay.
